Saundersfoot has enjoyed success at the Wales in Bloom awards once again.
After Saundersfoot in Bloom took a year off following last year's Gold success, the Saundersfoot Wombles kept community spirit alive by entering six projects in the ‘It's Your Neighbourhood’ scheme.
With no budget, just volunteer enthusiasm and support from local businesses including Co-op Kilgetty, Sandy Hill Nurseries, and Saundersfoot Sailing Club, the group aimed modestly for Level 1 awards across all projects.
The results exceeded all expectations: one Level 3, two Level 4s, and three Level 5 'Outstanding' awards!
“The judge's hugely complimentary feedback suggests a really strong chance of Gold if we enter the main competition next year!” remarked one of the seaside village’s county councillors Chris Williams on the success.
Saundersfoot Community Council also triumphed, earning a Level 5 and a certificate of distinction for the Sensory Garden with judges stating - "This is without doubt a first class garden that is maintained to the highest of standards."
Looking ahead to 2026, the Wombles are excited to partner with the Community Council for a unified village entry - ‘Blooms, Beaches and Community’.
“This exciting collaboration will bring together volunteers, residents, local businesses, and community groups in a shared mission to showcase Saundersfoot at its very best. Hopefully everyone in the village can get behind the team and let's make 2026 our year,” added Cllr Williams.
The 2025 Wales in Bloom Awards Ceremony was held at Wrexham Memorial Hall, where guests were welcomed by the city’s impressive floral arrangements.
In the neighbouring seaside village of Tenby, the fight for the ‘Best Hotel with a Frontage Display’ is always a titanic battle; and this year again both The Giltar Hotel and The Atlantic Hotel were awarded Gold; with overall the Giltar outshining the other Gold Award winners by just one important point.
