The annual Saundersfoot Carnival takes place on Sunday, August 5, at the Saundersfoot Sports Field. Proceedings begin at 2 pm with the crowning of the Carnival Queen Ellie Harries by Clr. Bill Cleevely, chairman of Saundersfoot Community Council. It was in fact Clr. Cleevely, and his wife who had the arduous task of selecting this year's Carnival Queen and her attendants. After difficult deliberations, Ellie was elected as the Carnival Queen, with her attendants being Lauren Price and Annie Batten. The Fairy Queen will be Millie Dibble-Chwistek and her attendants will be Alice Sloan and Mollie Lewis. This year's Carnival King will be Adam Muskett, with Scott Cowper as Prince Charming. Sunday will see a parade of floats and fancy dress walkers around the village returning to the Sports Field, led by the Milford Sea Cadet Band. Judging of the floats and the fancy dress will take place before a display of Irish dancing by members of the Julie Hynes School of Irish Dancing. The fancy dress classes are being sponsored by The Sands, while the prize for the best overall float is being sponsored by Redwing Travel. The ever-popular children's races, sponsored and organised by the Saundersfoot Rotary Club, will then take place. The Golden Welly Throwing Championship follows, the winners receiving a replica golden welly. There is a Grand Programme Draw, with the holder of the winning programme receiving £100, with other runner-up prizes, including a large bottle of whisky. All of this combined with fun-fair rides and stalls from local charities and organisations means a great afternoon out for families. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all their sponsors for their help. Anyone wishing to enter a float or a stall, please contact Roger at the Sports Club, tel. (01834) 813862. See you there!
