SAUNDERSFOOT 59 NEYLAND 44
Saundersfoot completed their Carruthers Shield fixtures for this season with a rain-curtailed home match against Neyland.
With little at stake as Tenby had already qualified from their group, the villagers were comfortable all afternoon, the biggest threat being the rain and strong wind, but both teams found the encounter useful as practice for their forthcoming league commitments when Saundersfoot will be hoping to improve on their fourth place of last year and Neyland to regain their place in the top flight having been relegated.
Three rinks gained victories for the home team, with one drawing, and the highlight of the afternoon came on the 11th end when Graham Hughes, Paul Blayney, Joe Dennis and skip Berwyn Dennis scored a hot shot against the unfortunate visitors skipped by Alan King.
Only holding a couple of shots with the skips left to play one wood each, Berwyn drove the opposition's nearest two woods from the head with perfect weight, his wood staying to count and Alan, aware of having to reach, was too heavy, to leave the Saundersfoot boys with a maximum count of eight.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will be a somewhat more difficult game, with league champions Tenby the visitors.
This will be Saundersfoot's first league game of the season and, as always, is likely to be a raucous affair and the match starts at 2 pm.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Neyland skips only):
A. Brace, J. Evans, B. Desmond, M. Dennis 10; R. Evans 10.
G. Hughes, P. Blayney, J. Dennis, B. Dennis 18; A. King 13.
R. Kennion, N. Ruff, J. Dugmore, S. Dick 17; B. McKay 12.
J. Moffat, N. Hensman, A. Brain, S. Evans 14; G. Nuttall 9.
ST. ISSELL'S 83 (14 pts.) BORDERERS 60 (0)
St. Issell's strengthened their position near the top of the Pembrokeshire Division Two league table with a home victory over the Borderers from Whitland.
After five ends, the villagers had opened up a 12-shot lead, which they had extended to 21 at the tea-break.
Still 19 up on 15 ends, the end result was never in doubt and all rinks won to give an overall win by 23 shots and, more importantly, scooped all of the 14 points at stake.
Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Borderers skips only):
B. McKehon, R. Kennion, M. Carr, R. Pring 21; D. Lewis 12.
E. Smith, D. Pope, N. Hensman, S. Howe 15; J. Addison 13.
J. Evans, D. Reed, B. Deeley, B. Lee 22; T. Davies 15.
J. Bingham, B. Glynn, S. Dick, J. Moffat 25; D. Jenner 20.
The team now take a short break, having already played five games, and are back in action on June 4 when they travel to play Neyland.

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 27
PENDINE LADIES 35
St. Issell's Ladies entertained Pendine on Monday evening and, after a soaking on Saturday, were pleased that the weather stayed dry, even it it was a little cold.
Rink two saw Lynn Statters, Audrey Williams, Diane Rigden with skip Kath Blayney put on a good show, but they were eventually beaten 19-14 by the Pendine quartet of Pam Jones, Doris Howells, Carol Jones and Ann Stewart.
On rink three, Brenda Davies, Pearl Thomas, Sue Roden and skip Amanda Lewis roared off to a 6-0 lead, only to be caught up by their opponents. It was then nip and tuck, until finally they were beaten 16-13 by Gill Cobb, Helen Evans, Betty Pickerskill and Pat Hawker.
St. Brides 20 Fishguard
Strumble 21
St. Brides welcomed the bowlers from Fishguard to Saundersfoot looking for their first victory in their third Meyrick Owen Shield game of the season.
The signs were not good, with the opposition taking a nine shots to two lead after the first four ends.
However, the home bowlers soon found their line and length, recovering to just a two-shot deficit at the interval.
After tea, the lead changed hands several times, leaving St. Brides with a three-shot lead going into the last end.
Unfortunately for the home side, the Fishguard bowlers produced some inspired bowling to steal the match with a count of four shots.
Rink score (St. Brides first): Peter Lewis, Colin Roden, Newton Griffiths, Brian McKehon 20; John Davies, Ben Hopkin, Patrick Dodd, John Evans 21.
