SAUNDERSFOOT 86 (10 pts.)
PEMBROKE DOCK 69 (4)
Saundersfoot entertained Pembroke Dock last Sunday in their last Pembrokeshire League Division One fixture of 2010 and ended the season on a high, gaining a 17-shot victory.
Although only picking up 10 of the 14 points, it could so easily have been a clean sweep as two rinks went into their last ends drawing with identical 19-all scores, only to just lose out at the death.
On rink two, captain Steve Dick had his usual rink of Roy Kennion at lead, Nev Ruff second and Paul Blayney third and thanks to some excellent bowling by opposing skip Dave Buchanan, found themselves nine shots adrift after just six ends.
It was a fight all the way after that and, although still seven shots down after 17, counts of four, one and two by the villagers set up a tense last end.
Third Paul Blayney drew right to the jack, only for Dave Buchanan to nudge it away and settle on the kitty himself, making a count of four in the process.
With the game won overall, Steve had the option of drawing second shot, but in an attempt to win the rink, just failed with two weighted shots.
Rink three had a similar end to their encounter, with Louis Price, John Morris, Brian Desmond and Myrddin Dennis drawing with one end to play, only to drop a three.
Allen Brace led for Simon Evans on rink four, with Neil Hensman second and Alan Brain third and restricted their opponents to winning just six ends in an 18-shot win.
Rink five saw the other Saundersfoot win, with Graham Hughes, Dai Lewis, George Cavell and John Jenkins winning by six shots.
Quick out of the blocks, the home four soon built up a 12-shot lead, but then failed to score on the next six ends to leave the scorecard reading 14 shots-all after 15 played.
The visitors, skipped by Richard Hissey, actually held a one shot advantage with thee ends to play, but counts of two, two and three to finish secured the win.
This was a satisfactory result for Saundersfoot, who could finish fourth depending on the result of the Dockers' last game against Tenby and captain Steve Dick, in his post-match speech, thanked the squad for their support throughout the season.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first): S. Dick 19 D. Buchanan 23; M. Dennis 19 R. Jones 22; S. Evans 26 B. Dowling 8; J. Jenkins 22 R. Hissey 16.
PENDINE 115 (12 pts.)
ST. ISSELL'S 60 (2)
Saundersfoot St. Issell's played their last away game in the Pembrokeshire Division Two League last weekend against a Pendine team who had already been crowned champions and who were looking to go through their season undefeated.
It was always going to be a tough task to take anything from the game and so it proved, with the home team rampant on three rinks in a 55-shot win.
Scores were close in the early stages, with Pendine only leading by seven shots after five ends, but a disastrous next five for the villagers saw this deficit increase by 30.
Things did not improve after the tea-break, but at least St. Issell's took something from the game, with captain Barrie Lee skipping his rink to a 12-shot victory.
The team were due to play their last game of the season this week in a rearranged game at home to St. Kaths of Milford Haven, the original fixture being postponed due to bad weather.
