Glorious sunshine heralded the opening of Saundersfoot Bowling Club for its 2009 season on Easter Saturday.
A good crowd of members, including a number of new recruits, and friends gathered around the green and watched chairman of the village's community council, County Councillor Phil Baker, roll the first wood.
Clr. Baker and everyone present were welcomed by both club president, John Evans, and club chairman, Paul Blayney, who thanked those who had been working hard to get the green and its surrounds ready for the start of the season and wished members a happy and enjoyable season.
Club president John and Clr. Baker also both congratulated Ann Lewis, Ceris Hewlings and Viv Edwards on their selection for the Welsh team competing in the Home International series in Jersey in June. Ann and Viv will also be Wales' representatives in the British Isles pairs.
Following the opening and prior to a triples competition, a spider was held for a bottle of whisky - the winner being new fixture secretary Stewart Howe.
This weekend, Saundersfoot begins its fixture programme, with St. Issell's Ladies playing away at Milford tomorrow (Saturday) and a six-rink men's friendly against Kidwelly on Sunday.
