The Saundersfoot Junior Open was held on Sunday, with glorious weather forecast and received! As well as the 11 entries, there were mums, dads, other family members,  supporters, holidaymakers and club members all there to cheer them on. Firstly, a round robin was held with two groups of four and one of three. This ensured that all competitors had 14 or 15 ends, before the number was reduced to eight for the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals were played over six ends, and Billy Lewis, Ryan Thomas, Andrew Seeley and Ysie White came out the eventual winners against Joe Dennis, Gemma Amos, Liam Price and Ben Cloake. In the semi-finals, over seven ends, Billy Lewis (last year's winner) was against Ryan Thomas. Ryan had a great start and was six up after three ends. However, Billy dug deep and picked up four on the next two ends, but once again, Ryan came back to be the eventual winner eight shots to five. In the other semi-final it was Andrew Seeley against Ysie White. Andrew was five-two up after five ends, but in an exciting final two ends, Ysie picked up two twos to win six-five. Firstly in the runners-up game, Billy Lewis was four -one up after two ends, but Andrew Seeley did not drop another shot and finished up eight-four winner. In the final, Ysie White met Ryan Thomas. It turned out to be a hard-fought game, with many touchers, and  movement of bowls and jack, but Ryan came through the deserved winner 11 shots to one. The presentation was performed by Saundersfoot president John Evans. Andrew and Billy received their envelopes, followed by Ysie with her heavier runners-up envelope! Finally the winner's cup and envelope was presented to the player of the day, Ryan. Well done Ryan! The quality of play and behaviour of all entrants throughout the tournament was of the highest standard and a credit to themselves, their coaches and club. Finally the organisers, Nev Ruff, Steve Dick and Stew Howe would like to thank the markers Alan Brace, John Austin, Paul Blayney, Dave Williams and Geoff Vigus, caterers Viv Dick, Val Ruff, Pearl Thomas, barman Brian Deeley and, too many to mention, donors of raffle prizes, food etc.  All agreed that it was a most successful day.                    Saundersfoot 72 (4 pts.)
