SAUNDERSFOOT 100 PEMBROKE DOCK 61

Following their success away to Milford, Saundersfoot continued their winning start to the season last Saturday when they entertained Pembroke Dock. Although games between these two sides are always closely contested, the seasiders pulled out all the stops on a warm, sunny afternoon and won the match by 39 shots, gaining 12 of the 14 points at stake. On rink one, captain George Cavell, Geoff Spiller, Gordon Thornton and skip John Dugmore were slow to get going and found themselves eight shots down after only three ends, but allowed the visitors to score on only another four ends to run out victors by 18 shots. On rink two, Graham Hughes, Don 'Bob the Builder' Stokes, Steve Dick and Don Poole had a close tussle with the rink skipped by Richard Hissey, but the 10 shots gained on the 15th, 16th and 17th ends were the difference between the sides at the end of the game. On rink three, Alan Brain, Brian Deeley, Roy Pring and Paul Blayney were always struggling to stay in contention with Pembroke's John Mulcair, Reg Thomas, new signing Ernie Sturley and veteran skip Les Davies and eventually went down by nine shots. Rink four saw Roy Kennion, Neville Ruff, Gareth Hughes and John Jenkins win the first 11 ends to lead 21 shots to nil and, although dropping a five on the 14th end, allowed the rink skipped by Richard Jones to score on only four more ends to win by 20 shots. This was an excellent performance against a strong Pembroke Dock team and the result will give Saundersfoot confidence for the games that lie ahead. Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Pembroke Dock skips only): George Cavell, Geoff Spiller, Gordon Thornton, John Dugmore 34; Brian Dowling 16. Graham Hughes, Don Stokes, Steve Dick, Don Poole 23; Richard Hissey 13. Alan Brain, Brian Deeley, Roy Pring, Paul Blayney 13; Les Davies 22. Roy Kennion, Neville Ruff, Gareth Hughes, John Jenkins 30; Richard Jones 10.

PENDINE 95 SAUNDERSFOOT 47

Like the words of the song, 'What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours'! Visiting Pendine on Sunday without several regular first teamers, Saundersfoot struggled on a heavy green in wet conditions and were comprehensively beaten by 48 shots, gaining only one point for their afternoon endeavours. Rink one saw George Cavell, Geoff Spiller, Gordon Thornton and John Dugmore go nine shots down after four ends and, although their game against the rink skipped by Dave King-Thomas was fairly even from then on, they could not get back at their opponents and lost by 12 shots. On rink two, Alan Brain, Brian Deeley, Barrie Lee and skip Paul Blayney had a ding-dong battle against Stewart King-Thomas's four and, although seven shots down on 17 ends, dug deep and won the last four ends, finishing with a three to share the spoils and gain a point. Rink three saw Roy Kennion, Neville Ruff, Allen Brace and John Jenkins struggle all afternoon and win only seven ends to go down by 15 shots. Rink four was a similar story where Don Stokes, Keith Rowland, Steve Dick and Don Poole also only won seven ends to lose by 21 shots. Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Pendine skips) only: George Cavell, Geoff Spiller, Gordon Thornton, John Dugmore 13; D. King-Thomas 25. Alan Brain, Brian Deeley, Barrie Lee, Paul Blayney 17; S. King-Thomas 17. Roy Kennion, Neville Ruff, Allen Brace, John Jenkins 9; Mal Evans 24. Don Stokes, Keith Rowland, Steve Dick, Don Poole 8; M. Thomas 29. There are no league games this weekend and Saundersfoot will continue their campaign on Sunday, May 18, away to Castle of Haverfordwest, who were promoted from division two last season.

ST. KATH'S 91 ST. ISSELL'S 74

The gentlemen of St. Issell's visited Milford last Saturday to play St. Kath's and gave a much- improved performance over the previous week, losing by just 17 shots and picking up two points. On rink one, Mike Carr's rink with David Williams at lead, John Bingham second and new member Bill Glynn at third were six shots down at tea, two shots up on 17 ends, but then dropped a five on the next end to tip the balance back to the home team, who eventually won by 25 shots to 20. Rink two saw Peter Lewis, Gordon James, Gwynfor Davies and Peter Bissell have a tremendous battle with the St. Kath's rink skipped by Dave Hastings and with the scores tied on 20 ends were unlucky to drop a three on the last. On rink three, Lionel Allen, Dennis Reed, Keith Rowland and Stewart Howe were three shots down on 18 ends, but won the last three, picking up five shots to pip their opponents by two. On rink four, Newton Griffiths, John Austin, Jim Davies and Barrie Lee had a good tusstle with their opponents, but two counts of a five and a four were the main difference between the sides and the rink eventually went down by 11 shots. On rink two, Pearl Thomas, Sue Roden, Ceris Hewlings and Gloria Dugmore struggled to stay with the visitors who were leading by 13 shots after 19 ends. With rink one having finished, this meant that the scores were tied, but, cheered on by their team- mates, the St. Issell's ladies picked up a four and a one to ensure victory.
