County finals
Saundersfoot will have a strong contingent of bowlers involved in the West Wales Ladies Bowling Association finals at Milford Haven tomorrow (Saturday). Welsh international Ann Lewis will be defending her singles title against club-mate Marion Evans. Marion is also in the two-wood singles, while Ann is skipping Chris Haley and Gwenda Rees in the triples. They play Kath Blayney, Amanda Lewis and the club's newly-capped international Ceris Hewlings. Good luck to all.
Saundersfoot in Bloom
Saundersfoot Bowling Club has won first prize again in the best club display class in Saundersfoot in Bloom thanks to the hard work of Brian Deeley and his band of helpers. Well done Brian, once again, and thanks for all your time and effort put in to making the surroundings of the green so pretty.
National finals
Saundersfoot will have two representatives at the national finals in Llandrindod Wells next week. Mal Bishop will be playing in the singles, while John Jenkins will be in the Over 60s singles.
Test match
Congratulations to John Roberts who has been selected to play for Wales in a Test Match against England at Llandrindod Wells at the end of August.
Charity Night
Tonight (Friday), Macky Brace will be holding a charity match in aid of the Pembroke School Autistic Unit, starting at 6 pm.
DIVISION ONE
Saundersfoot's Division One team are in the middle of a hectic schedule of games. Under the captaincy of Myrddin Dennis, they travelled over the Cleddau to Neyland on Saturday. Saundersfoot won by five shots, picking up nine of the 14 points available. On Tuesday night, they entertained Haverfordwest at home and were beaten on three of the four rinks, only managing to pick up two points. This weekend, Saundersfoot have two away games. Tomorrow (Saturday), they play Tenby, while on Sunday, they travel to Haverfordwest.
Captain's Day
Ladies' captain Kath Blayney will be holding her Captain's Day next Friday, August 17, commencing at 1 pm. The afternoon promises to be full of fun and laughter, with a game of bowls thrown in too! There will also be a meal following the game. The theme is Ascot Ladies' Day and there will be a prize for the lady with the best hat. A notice is displayed at the club for lady members to sign their name if they wish to attend.
Rossiters Golden Charter Tournament 2007
The Rossiters Golden Charter Tournament 2007 will be held at Saundersfoot Bowling Club on Monday, August 27. The intention is for 12 pairs from Tenby and 12 pairs from Saundersfoot to play a round robin in four groups, with the group winners progressing to the semi-final stage. As last year, it will be three- woods, with six ends per game. Matches will commence at 9 am, snacks will be available all day and a buffet will follow the presentation of trophies. Priority will be given to mixed pair entries and the prizes will be as follows: 1st prize - £150 between pair, plus trophy and t-shirts; 2nd prize - £80 between pair, plus towels; 3rd prize - £40 between pair, plus towels. Entry will be £2 per pair and there will also be a raffle, with the proceeds of this going to a local charity. Please enter your names on the sheets in the clubhouse - closing date Sunday, August 19.
