BREWERS CUP St. Issell's  90 (11 pts.) St. Kaths 71 (3)   The sky looked overcast as St. Issell's travelled to Milford to play St. Kaths, but the evening, though cool, turned out very pleasant for the team. On rink two, the St. Issell's foursome of Don Pope, Pete Bissell, Bryn Llewellyn and skip Nev Ruff struggled from the start and were 10 shots down after five ends, but the team rallied to come back and only lose out by four 24-20.  Rink three saw an outstanding performance from the whole of the St. Issell's rink of Ed Gulliver, Gwynfor Davies, Brian Deeley and skip Roy Pring. They quickly established a lead of 16 shots to one, and even though their opponents came back, they could not pull back the deficit, with St. Issell's being worthy winners 26 shots to 15. There was another first class performance on rink four from the whole of the St. Issell's team of Mike Carr, Keith Rowlands, Merv Dennis and skip John Evans. They all found the green from the start and all contributed to a superb win, taking seven of the last 10 ends to record the final winning score 26 shots to 14. On rink five, with young Joe Dennis having an excellent start and well supported by Newton Griffith, Barry Lee and skip Steve Dick, the St. Issell's lads stayed with their opponents and went into the last end, three shots to the good, but then the lost a three to finish a very creditable 18 shots apiece.  On an away green, this was a first class performance from the St. Issell's team and all are to be congratulated.

St. Issell's 67 (3 pts.) Five Arches 75 (11)

An overcast morning gave way to a warm afternoon as St. Issell's entertained Tenby Five Arches to the green. The match on rink two was always going to be a hard fought one, with two very well matched teams. It was all square after 15 ends, with no big counts, but then the home rink of John Bingham, Keith Rowlands, Merv Dennis and skip John Evans went up a gear to win four of the last six ends and run out 20-14 winners. On rink three, the St Issell's foursome of Ed Gulliver, Bryn Llewellyn, Brian Deeley and skip Roy Pring had a slow start and were six shots adrift at tea, but after a couple of chocolate biscuits, they settled down to pull back the deficit and at one stage took the lead, only to lose the last two ends to finish 17-shots apiece. Another close match on rink four saw the lead swing back and forth, but when the home rink of Don Pope, Pete Bissell, Nev Ruff and skip Steve Dick  dropped a three on the second to last end, the game had swung to Five Arches, who went on to win by five shots, 20 -15.                                                                Level with four ends to play on rink five, the St. Issell's rink of Gwynfor Davies, John Austin, Barry Lee and skip Les Davies really saw the wheels come off the wagon as they lost the last four ends, including a five on the last end, to finish 24-15 down. This was a good afternoon's bowling played in a competitive and sporting manner.                                                  St. Issell's 91 (11 pts.) Fishguard and  Goodwick 74 (3)

On a very pleasant evening, St. Issell's entertained the league leaders in a Brewers Cup match. On rink one, with the rink of Keith Rowlands, John Bingham, Paul Blayney and skip John Evans all playing good woods, St. Issell's held the lead until a bad spell saw them lose five ends on the run to be down with two ends to play. A very good six, however, saw them finish an exciting game 19 shots apiece. On rink two, the St. Issell's foursome of Geof Vigus, Brian Deeley, Ed Gulliver and skip Roy Pring started slowly, but then came into the game to be all- square on end 17. They then raised their game to win the last three ends in fine style to finish   winners 24 shots to 18. Rink three saw the home quartet never lose the lead from the start and, despite dropping a five midway through, Don Pope, Pete Bissell, Mike Carr and skip Nev Ruff kept their focus and took four of the last five ends to finish with an excellent win 28 shots to 14. On rink four, the St. Issell's  team of Newton Griffiths, John Austin, Barry Lee and skip Steve Dick were down at tea, but pulled back and bowling well, led 20 shots to 17, but then lost the last three ends to go down 23 shots to 20. This was a first class performance from St. Issell's against a very strong Fishguard and Goodwick side.
