The visitors took the honours at Saundersfoot's annual Open Week which reached its conclusion on Saturday.

Despite the miserable weather, spectators were treated to a feast of bowling in all three finals. Dilwyn Jones, of Skewen, lifted his second trophy in a fortnight when he beat teenager, Daniel David Jnr, of Beaufort, 21-8, in the Osborne Trophy Singles. The week before, Dilwyn had won the pairs at Haverfordwest.

At Saundersfoot, Dilwyn picked up the trophy and £300 prize-money, while Daniel received £100.

Losing semi-finalists, Paul Blayney and Gordon Thornton, both of the home club, had £25.

In the Poole Bowl pairs, Saundersfoot's John Roberts and partner Lyn Guy, of Berwick, were defeated 23-9 by father and son, Brian and David Kingdon, of Llanelli, who put on an impressive display of bowling to lift the bowl and the £300 prize-money. The runners-up received £75 each.

Losing semi-finalists were Nigel Davies and Alan Whitehouse, of Whitland, and Tommy Nutt and C. Jones.

There was also home interest in the Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club Shield, with Gareth Hughes playing Peter Toomey, of Guest Memorial. This was another closely fought contest, with Peter winning 21-16.

All the finalists and runners-up also received commemorative glasses.

The prizes were presented by the club's Don Poole, who is Pembroke County Bowling Association junior vice-president, while club chairman, Geoff Vigus, thanked everyone who had made the week's tournament a success, including the organisers, Joan and Barrie Lee, the ladies who did a marvellous job in the kitchen, the bar stewards, the markers and the umpires, the greenkeeper, and not forgetting all the players who had taken part.

Club vice-chairman, Ann Lewis, presented Joan Lee with a bouquet of flowers, while marker-of-the- week, Neville Ruff, received a bottle of whisky.

FIRST DIVISION

SAUNDERSFOOT 80 (10pts) MILFORD 75 (4pts)

Last Saturday, a much weakened Saundersfoot team played against Milford. This turned out to be a very tight match, with the outcome only decided on the final ends. With two rinks remaining on the green, the scores were all level, until David Poole's rink took a count of four shots on their final end, followed by a single taken on the rink skipped by John Roberts. This was a very important win with only four games remaining until the end of the season. Saundersfoot's next game is tomorrow (Saturday) against cluib rivals St. Issell's.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Milford skips only): Graham Hughes, James Criddle, Paul Blayney, John Roberts 28; Ernie Sturley 16.

Denvor Williams, Brian Jones, John Dugmore, Don Poole 16; Tony Ellyatt 19.

Geoff Spiller, Macky Brace, John Jenkins, David Poole 20; Barry Howells 16.

Sam Anderson, Adrian Gosnold, Tommy Nutt, Stephen Poole 16; Roy Thomas 24.
