LADIES' LEAGUE

Mixed fortunes

Saundersfoot Ladies have had mixed fortunes with their games over the last week. They beat Fishguard away and picked up four points. Captain Joan Lee, Joyce Waters, Viv Edwards and Marion Evans chalked up a 28-12 win, while Angela Roberts, Stephanie Amos, Anne Davies and Kay Kennion lost 14-25. Unfortunately, against Cleddau, both rinks went down. Joan Lee, Joyce Waters, Viv Edwards and Marion Evans lost 17-20 to county secretary Ann Thomas. They were holding three shots to win on the last end, but Ann drew a perfect wood right on the jack with her last wood. Angela Roberts, Alwen Hughes, Anne Davies and Kay Kennion also suffered a 12-18 defeat. On Saturday, the ladies from Pembroke Dock Park were the visitors to Saundersfoot. Angela Roberts, Joyce Waters, Viv Edwards and Marion Evans picked up two points when they beat Margaret Lewis 22-20, while Elsie Pendlebury, Anne Davies, Kay Kennion and Ceris Hewlings finished six adrift of Kay Cole.

PENDINE LADIES 29 ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 44

The ladies of St. Issell's gained another maximum six points when they travelled to Pendine (writes spectator). On rink one, skip Beryl Lewis, aided by captain Kath Blayney, Chris Haley and Amanda Lewis, raced into an early lead and with a six on end number six were looking for a big win. However, they only won six of the remaining 15 ends, but held on to win by two shots against the Pendine rink skipped by Ann Stewart. On rink two, skip Ann Lewis, back from international duty with Wales, had a solid front three of Lyn Statters, Diane Rigden and Beryl Lawrence. They were level with the Pendine four skipped by Betty Pickersgill after 10 ends, but pulled steadily away in the second half of the game and ran out winners by 13 shots. This victory consolidates St. Issell's position near the top of the league and they will be hoping for revenge against fellow club members from Saundersfoot when they meet on August 1 at 2 pm.
