Saundersfoot played the Mariners in Pembroke on Sunday with a much depleted side. The Saundersfoot boys started slowly during the first 10 ends and were five shots down. The second half saw a big recovery and a comfortable win with only the one losing rink. The Saundersfoot boys have now got an important match in Haverfordwest tomorrow (Saturday). St. Issell's 62 (2 pts.) Milford 76 (12)

On a lovely warm sunny day, St. Issell's travelled to fellow strugglers Milford. Rink one saw the team of John Evans, Gwynfor Davies, Derek Newton and skip Les Davies fall behind 17 shots to seven with only six ends to play, but then they staged a late rally to only lose by three shots, with opposite skip B. Davies having to make a match winning shot on the last end. Rink two saw the team of Matthew Dick, Pete Bissell, Nev Ruff and skipped by Bryn Llewellyn drop a significant six just before tea and despite picking up two fours after the interval they could not pull back the deficit and went down 16 shots to 20. Rink three, with new lead Newton Griffiths having an outstanding game and well supported by John Austin, Don Stokes and skip Steve Dick, St. Issell's stayed in contention until fading to lose five of the last six ends and finish 13 shots to 20 down. On rink four, St. Issell's welcomed back skip Gordon Thornton after his trip to America, and with his team of George Cavell, Dave Greaves and Barry Lee all playing well, it was a close and thrilling match with the St. Issell's team taking a well deserved win on the final end to finish 18 shots to 17 up.  Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Milford skips only) were: J. St. Issell's 55 (0 pts.) Neyland 106 (14)   After the lovely weather of Saturday, St. Issell's travelled to Neyland on a cold and wet Sunday.  On rink three, the team of Mick Hughes, John Austin, Don Stokes and skip Steve Dick stayed with their opponents right up to tea-break, but then fell away to end up losing 14 shots to 23.  Rink four saw the team of George Cavell, Derek Newton, Dave Greaves and skip Gordon Thornton lose nine of the last 11 ends to go down 13 shots to 29, a disappointment after their win of the previous day.  On rink five, Dave Williams, Grynfor Davies, Brian Deeley and Les Davies struggled from the start to stay with the opponents and trailed 20 shots to three at the half-way stage. Despite a rally after tea, they could not make up the deficit and eventually lost 13 shots to 30.  On rink six with lead John Evans and second Pete Bissell holding their own with their opposite numbers, along with third Bryn Llewellyn and new skip Nev Ruff, they stayed in contention up to the last two ends, before going down 15 shots to 24.  Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Neyland skips only‚ were: M. TENBY 42 SAUNDERSFOOT 42

Saundersfoot Ladies were disappointed when their winning streak came to an end last week, losing to Tenby. Alwen Hughes, Anne Davies, Lorna Bissell and Kay Kennion drew on their rink, but Joan Lee, Angela Roberts, Viv Edwards and Marion Evans, just lost on the last end to go down by four.

SAUNDERSFOOT 63 FISHGUARD 14

After their disappointment at Tenby, Saundersfoot Ladies were back to winning ways on Friday when they chalked up a convincing win at home against Fishguard. Both the rinks skipped by Marion Evans and Ceris Hewlings were 10-1 up at five ends and 18-2 up at tea-time. With all the team bowling well, Saundersfoot continued to pile in the shots in the second-half with Marion winning 34-7 and Ceris 29-7. The ladies of St. Issells played home and away to Neyland, and although only picking up three points, aquitted themselves well against a team that is invariably vying for top spot in the league (writes Spectator).

NEYLAND 51 ST. ISSELL'S 36

After 10 ends, the game was evenly poised with only three shots the difference and only four shots separated the teams after 15 ends. Neyland ladies however stepped up a gear as the match reared its conclusion and only allowed St. Issell's to score on three ends of the last 12 available to take all six points. ST. ISSELL'S 38 NEYLAND 38

This was a game that the home ladies could and should have won. At 10 ends, St. Issell's were 11 shots up and maintained that lead up to 15 ends. After 18 of the 21 ends they still led by eight shots, but disaster struck on the 19th when the rink skipped by Beryl Lewis dropped a count of six and the overall result was on honourable draw and three points each.
