Traditionally we have no games this week, with many of our members taking the air in foreign climes. I hope the weather is kind to them in England and that the bowls games are great.
THE WEEK AHEAD
For members, non-members and visitors: • Friday Club Night, 6 pm, and turn up and bowl. Ten-end games followed by social activities, plus an opportunity for non-members to try out the facilities or try their hand at bowls for free. • Wednesday triples, 2 pm - An open event for any who turn up. Teams are drawn from the hat. Tea and biscuits at the mid point of the game.
Games to watch
Sunday: Saundersfoot v Pembroke Dock. Two of the county's leading teams battle it out in the Carruthers Shield. Monday: Saundersfoot v Glos. Spar. A friendly fixture with mixed teams.
OTHER MATTERS
I cannot steal the thunder of the County ladies in reporting on the North v South County Ladies game. I must, however, congratulate all the Saundersfoot people who worked very hard to maintain our high standard of hospitality. The day went extremely well and all enjoyed their afternoon with us. Notices and schedules for the Juniors are on the board. Dave Greaves is in his element organising everything to ensure Juniors have a good experience of bowls and the club. The deadline for the 100 Club approaches. Please support Beryl Lawrence by signing up. A modest £10 can win you a monthly prize. Finally, a warm welcome to the new members who were elected to the club at Thursday's committee meeting.
ST. ISSELLS 48 MILFORD 31
On a glorious day for bowling, the St. Issell's Ladies of Saundersfoot gained four of the six points at stake by defeating Milford by 17 shots (writes Spectator). Beryl Lewis skipped her rink to an 18-shot win, allowing their opponents to only better them on six of the 21 ends. Gloria Dugmore's four had a close tussle against Milford's Joyce Navas and the score was tied at 17- all with one end to play. St. Issell's held the shot until the very last wood when Joyce played a perfect wood to snatch the two points by the narrowest of margins. Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Milford skips only): B. Davies, C. Hayley, B. Lawrence, B. Lewis 31; P. Davies 13. K. Blayney, V. Ruff, S. Spiller, G. Dugmore 17; J. Navas 18. This win gives St. Issell's 24 points from their first six games and captain Kath Blayney is proud of her team's good start to the season. The ladies have no games this weekend and resume on Friday, May 26, home to Pembroke Dock Park at 6 pm and away to close rivals Tenby on Saturday, May 27, at 2.30 pm.
