St. Issell's

The warm-up fixture on Sunday against Five Arches got Bryn and his team off to a flying start, winning by 86 to 60 shots and two-and-a half rinks to one-and-a-half. Steve Dick's rink picked up the highest score kitty. Les Davies's rink, having lead for much of the game, fell behind, but pulled off a draw with the last wood on the 21st end. Gordon Thornton's rink lead comfortably up to the 19th end when they lost the plot and dropped 12 shots in three ends, losing by four shots. The best of luck to Bryn Llewellyn in his first season. Opening day

We had a super attendance and were grateful that the weather was kind. George was in his element collecting subs. Marion got the 100 Club off to a flier, with a substantial number of entries. The chairman welcomed all to the opening. He expressed his regret at the loss of some established members, recognising their efforts in establishing the club. We were also pleased to welcome a number of new members. Don Poole bowled the first wood bang on line and weight. John Bingham won the spider, followed by 10 ends on a heavy green. We then progressed to a magnificent spread and the odd glass of warming alcohol to round off the day. In his address to the munching members, the president thanked all for attending. He also gave warm thanks to our sponsors and asked members to support our sponsors by using their services. He wished everyone an enjoyable and rewarding season. The season starts in earnest on April 29, with four teams out on the green. Good luck to Kath Blayney, Joan Lee and Stephen Poole. I expect to have more to report from their teams in two weeks.
