This Sunday, Wales and Scotland will once again do battle on the rugby field, and as this year it is taking place in Cardiff, suddenly the capital will be overrun by Scotsmen determined to drink the place dry. Normally at this time I would go into hiding for obvious reasons! Over the past few years, the daffodil has weeded out the thistle. However, this year, I am standing tall, well as tall as I can, and am actually going to attend the match, in the company of John Dugmore. We are going in the company of 30 burly Glasgow policemen! So hopefully we will be safe and not get into any trouble. Although thinking of John decked out in a Scottish shirt and a kilt, might be a bit much to expect? I guess the biggest problem will be trying to hold him quiet if Wales, as expected, win; I don't think we will be fit enough to outrun a bunch of burly policemen.

JUNIOR PAIRS

Once again the juniors face an early morning start as they make their way to Port Talbot Arena to take part in the Welsh Under 16 Junior Pairs Competition. This season, Mathew Dick is teaming up with Adam Hensman for a 9.30 am start, while Sam Anderson and Joe Dennis have a later start at 11 am. With little experience of playing in these type of competitions, against players from the likes of Swansea and Llanelli, who play in Junior Leagues every week, entering from Heatherton is purely for the opportunity of gaining vital experience, which hopefully will pay dividends later.

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES

The ladies of St. Issell's met last week for their annual get-together. This year they actually behaved themselves, I am reliably informed. The extra police called in to guard the village were stood down early when it was obvious that the girls were going to behave.

CLUB TOUR

John tells me that everything is now completed regarding the tour, and he is now busy trying to sort out the various teams. Once again plenty of time has been arranged for sightseeing, or in the case of the ladies, time to visit the various large shops in the Bournemouth area. All gentlemen are reminded that they should make sure their credit cards are conveniently left at home when they pack their clothes! While all is ready, there are still a couple of places left, should anyone decide to join us at the last minute. Even if you do not play, but just fancy a holiday in good company, get in touch with John.

WHIST

Results, Monday, February 6: top score - Beryl Marsh; 1st lady - Rene Baggott; 2nd lady - Mabel Whittaker; 1st gent - Gladys Cleaton; 2nd gent - Elsie Pendlebury; first half winner - Beryl Lawrence; second half winner - Bill Whittaker; lowest score - Ann Lewis; longest sitter - John Mills; raffles - Ann Lewis and Geoffrey Vigus. The whisters would like to wish Robert Irvine a speedy recovery.

Sympathy

Members were saddened to hear of the death on Tuesday of popular member, Lindsay Waters. Sympathy is extended to Joyce and the family. Details of the funeral can be found elsewhere in this issue.
