CLUB TOUR 2006
With 2006 already two weeks old - my, doesn't time fly - a number of folks are already not only looking forward to the greens re-opening in early April, but also the now annual club tour. This year, we are heading for Bournemouth, and John has it on good authority that once again we are going to be blessed with excellent weather. All the games are organised, the hotel and coach booked; it is just a case of turning up. Unfortunately, a couple of our regular 'tourers' have had to call off this year. One couple, in fact, have arranged their wedding during that week - I mean, they could have organised it in Bournemouth and we could have fitted it in between games? The outcome is that there are a couple of spare places on the tour. Whilst obviously it is a bowls tour, you don't have to be a bowler to come on the tour. In fact, we already have a few that come along because they have a brilliant time. The dates are May 13 to 20 inclusive, the cost for bed and breakfast and evening meal, all tips etc being just £270 per person. The hotel is brilliant, more or less on the sea-front, entertainment is arranged at night, and you don't even have to pay extra to watch the 'Saundersfoot Follies' strut their stuff on the Thursday night. There is plenty of time to relax and see the sights if you do bowl, but obviously if you just want to enjoy the trip, you can organise your own days, or travel with the bowlers and see new places. If you fancy the idea, then get in touch with John or Gloria Dugmore on 01834 813458.
WELSH SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE
Taking another step, in what is hoped will be a successful one in bowling, were three of the junior players, Mathew Dick, Dana Rogers and Liz Goldwait, once again finding themselves with an early start, as they headed off to attend the School of Excellence at Bro Myrddin. Heroine of the day was young Liz Goldwait, who had been away on a skiing holiday with her family during the holidays and returned on crutches. After damaging her leg, determined to attend the day, she gamely stuck to the tasks set, but after the first session was having difficulty even putting her foot on the ground. Despite being given permission to sit out, Liz ignored the pain and managed to stay the full course. Whilst not the most exciting day they have had, the mere fact that Heatherton and Saundersfoot Juniors are attracting the attention of the WBCA and being invited to events such as this, augurs well for the future of bowls in the clubs.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Two of the girls celebrate their birthdays this coming Monday, so just to cause them even more embarrassment, many happy returns of the day to Dana Rogers and Rachel Hensman. No doubt they will be blushing to high heavens reading this, and my name will be mud, so I am going into hiding, until the flak dies down.
