SAUNDERSFOOT 100 (13 pts.) ST. ISSELL'S 51 (1)
Saundersfoot played St. Issell's on Monday evening in a match sponsored by Jeff Cabs Taxis. This game was very important for the 'Foot as 10 points would mean that they would retain the league shield. The game was played in very wet conditions, but the rain did not dampen the atmosphere in a game that was played in very good spirit. Saundersfoot won the match by 49 shots, taking 13 of the possible 14 points to become the league champions again.
On rink two, the Saundersfoot rink skipped by John Roberts defeated John Moffat's rink by 24 shots to 15. The St. Issell's four were 10-7 up after 12 ends, but the Saundersfoot rink came strong in the second half and pulled clear with some healthy counts in the last five ends.
Rink three saw a very low scoring match between Paul Diment's four and the St. Issell's four skipped by Mike Goldingay. This was the first game that Paul has been able to skip since he injured his leg playing football a few weeks back - some say it's about time someone his age gave up football! The Saundersfoot rink were 9-6 up after nine ends, before winning 10 of the last 12 ends, taking a single shot on each of them.
On rink four, Saundersfoot's Stephen Poole was once again up against St. Issell's Dave Robb. The two rinks clashed a few weeks ago in a drawn match and yet again the result was the same. The Saundersfoot rink were 12-8 up after 14 ends, only to let their lead slip by losing five ends without reply to trail by 18 shots to 12. The Saundersfoot rink then took a three on the 20th end and a three on the 21st end after Stephen removed the St. Issell's wood out of the head with the last wood of the match - this brought great entertainment to the gallery on the balcony.
On rink five, the Saundersfoot rink skipped by David Poole were much too strong on the night for the St. Issell's rink skipped by Derek Newton. The Saundersfoot rink were 31-2 up after 14 ends and eventually won the match by 39 shots to eight. Steve Dick and Gareth Hughes both had excellent games up front, which provided a strong platform for Macky and David. The Saundersfoot rink were definitely the 'awesome foursome' on the night.
After the match, captain Macky had a smile like a Cheshire Cat and he thanked the Saunderfoot boys for their efforts in retaining the league title. Captain John Moffatt also thanked his St. Issell's team for their support during the season and congratulated the Saundersfoot team on once again winning the league.
St. Issell's have now finished their league games for the season and Saundersfoot have their final league match this Sunday in Milford and also the semi-final of the Diment Cup on a date still to be finalised.

James Criddle, Graham Hughes, Myrddin Dennis, John Roberts 24; Neville Ruff, David Greaves, Alan Brace, John Moffat 15.

SAUNDERSFOOT 37 NEYLAND LADIES 39
This game came as a jolt to the 'Foot ladies who had been riding high over the others in the league. It was a very narrow defeat, but certainly not one they wanted. Marion Evans with Viv Edwards, A. Hughes and Joan Lee managed to take a count of two on the last end to take the points, while Lorna Bissell, Joyce Waters, Elaine Shaw and Elsie Pendlebury fought hard to get back into the game, missing out by four. While not panicking yet, it will make the ladies take a closer look at themselves and hopefully bounce back for the next game. Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Neyland skips only): J. Lee, A. Hughes, V. Edwards, M. Evans 21; J. Sutton 21. E. Pendlebury, E. Shaw, J. Waters, L. Bissell 14; M. Sanders 18.
SAUNDERSFOOT JUNIORS 40 PENDINE JUNIORS 20
This was the first ever fixture between the two junior sections of the clubs, and the first ever organised game for the majority of the youngsters. Playing triples over just 12 ends, the juniors of Saundersfoot revelled in performing in front of their parents. Joe Dennis, Saundersfoot's captain of the day, obviously taking his duties seriously, led by example, urging his team to better things and eventually won by 20 shots. Next door, Bethan Gosnold had a harder job on her hands against a very promising Pendine team, a draw on this rink being a very fair result. At the finish, nobody really cared about the result and they enjoyed their drink and biscuits. Hopefully this will lead to many more such games between the various club juniors in the county. Representing Saundersfoot were Joe Dennis, Rachel Hensman, Katie Waters, Bethan Gosnold, Chelsea Harris and Richard Tilt. Many thanks to young Richard who came in at the last minute and gave a dazzling display of front end play from such an inexperienced player.
100 CLUB DRAW
The monthly draw for the 100 Club was made last week after the two ladies teams met in their league match. Winners were: £25 - John Evans (number 55); £15 - Mary Cavell (number 12). Once again, those of you who did not win, keep your fingers crossed, there is always next month.
SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 108 BOARS TOURERS 73
The ladies combined to play a five-rink friendly against these lady tourers, and as is normal in this type of game, the emphasis was on enjoyment of the day And boy did they enjoy it. Laughter abounded amid the good bowling, and many friendships were formed in a lovely atmosphere. For a change, the menfolk took charge of dishing out the tea, much to the delight of the ladies. Rink scores (skips names only, Saundersfoot first) were: B. Lewis 28, J. Morgan 10; B. Lawrence 19, J. Meadows 13; Lorna Bissell 20, J. Boyton 22; Margaret Robb 19, M. Dodsworth 17; Marion Evans 22, S. Lacy 11.
SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 37 ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 37
This was the second meeting of the two ladies teams from the club, and with the Saundersfoot ladies heading to the league crown again, St. Issell's were playing for the prestige alone. There was some cracking bowling from all the ladies on a cold night, with no quarter given or expected. As it turned out, at the finish both teams shared the points and honours were even. Rink scores (Saundersfoot first) were: E. Pendlebury, E. Shaw, A. Davies, K. Kennion 17; P. Thomas, D. Rigden, M. Robb, B. Lawrence 15. J. Lee, J. Waters, V. Edwards, M. Evans 20; C. Haley, K. Blayney, A. Howells, B. Lewis 22.
HANDS THAT DO DISHES ARE AS SOFT AS YOUR FACE
Alwen Hughes needed some smelling salts last Saturday. Up in the pavilion after a lunch of fish and chips, she went into the kitchen to wash her plate when she was met with the sight of hubbie Graham up to his arm-pits in soap suds. After coming round, she said that was the first time she had ever seen him do dishes. Graham's reply was that he was always too busy washing down the milking parlour. Suffice to say he has gone out for some marigold gloves, as his hands are all soft now!
GOOD LUCK
Good luck to Ann Lewis and Chris Haley, who will be playing in the semi-finals of the Welsh pairs on Monday at Pontymister Welfare. The duo will be playing one of Ann's Welsh international colleagues, Anwen Butten and her mother, Anita Williams, of Lampeter. In the quarter-final, Viv Edwards kindly stepped in to Chris's shoes at the last minute to play with Ann.
