Members of Saundersfoot Bowls Club, along with bowlers throughout the county, were stunned to learn of the sudden death of Tenby bowler Dave Morgan last week. Having played against him on the Monday, when he was at his usual affable best, it is hard to believe that his smiling face and good humoured comments will no longer be heard. A lovely man, a cracking bowler. Saundersfoot stand side-by-side with their fellow bowlers from Tenby in their moment of loss. The club sends its condolences to the family.
TENBY FIVE ARCHES 32

LADIES 43
The scores certainly do not reflect the closeness of this game. Both sets of ladies gave their all, with some exciting ends, and it was a case of anyone's game at tea, with both teams leading on one rink.
After tea, the Saundersfoot Ladies settled down and methodically peeled away at the Tenby team to run out comfortable winners.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Tenby Five Arches skips only) were as follows :
J. Lee, E. Shaw, M. Cummings, M. Evans 22; M. Marquiss 14.
V. Edwards C. Griffiths, K. Kennion, L. Bissell 21; V. Williams 18.

Lorna Bissell's rink looked like a rink with a mission as they stormed away with this game picking up five counts of four and a five count during the game. The visitors could only watch and admire, only managing to win six ends.
On the other rink it was a real humdinger of a match. Old adversaries Marion Evans and Joyce Navas fought it out tooth and nail, Saundersfoot winning 11 ends to Milford's 10. It cannot get much closer, with a draw probably the best result.
With the other rink winning by 32 shots, it was handshakes all round.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Milford skips only) were as follows:
V. Edwards, A Hughes, K. Kennion, L. Bissell 42; J. Collins 10.
E. Pendlebury, J. Lee, M. Cummings, M. Evans 16; J. Navas 16.
WELL DONE LADS
The county competitions are now well under way, and two of the club's juniors, Mathew Dick and James Criddle, made their debuts in the County Under 18 last week.
Mathew travelled to Whitland and played a stormer against seasoned campaigner Louis Price. Two down and seemingly out of the match, his last wood was a running shot to turn over for a three and a win. He won many fans with his demeanour and etiquette on the green.
James Criddle was at home to the young James Jenner, of Whitland. Unfortunately, the Whitland lad could not match James's consistency with short jacks and lost out. Hopefully, both youngsters will go further in this competition. They are playing well.

PEMBROKE DOCK 58 (0)
Still smarting after their defeat on the Monday against Tenby, the Saundersfoot team, with a couple of enforced changes in their line-up, welcomed Pembroke Dock to the village. The foursome on rink three started off at a steady pace, with Bryan Jones, in particular, doing well. After tea, they upped the stakes and ran out comfortable 31 to six winners. Rink four saw Graham Hughes with Kevin Davies begin to gel together and gave their back-enders an easy night of things, winning by five shots.
Next door, Barry Lee was making his first appearance of the season, and impressive he was too. The rink as a whole played a steady game to run out winners by 17 shots.
On rink six, the old boys of Tony Cummings and John Evans played a steady game at the front, making things easy for their back-enders, eventually romping home 24 to 15.
The story doing the rounds so far is that Macky feels he is getting stitched up landing him with the 7Up Trophy. Only time will tell.

HAVERFORDWEST 57
The journey to Harfat last week was all the more pertinent to the Saundersfoot lads, knowing full well that nothing but a good win would suffice, and captain Paul Blayney at the end was delighted with the result.
Prior to the game, both teams stood in memory of Dave Morgan, of Tenby, who had passed away tragically a few days prior.
Phil Carpenter's rink had an up and downer as they say against P.D.S. Jenkins, but after tea they moved up a gear to win by 12 shots.
Steve Poole's rink hit top form from the off, with again Bryan Jones on his toes. Again, it is a team game and his team-mates did their jobs well to record a 16-shot win.
Dave Poole and his merry band were finding it a bit more of a tussle. At the 16th end they were seven shots adrift against the shy retiring Mr. Fairhust?, but some sustained pressure saw them nick the one shot on the last end to win by just a shot.
Next door again, the rink gelled well together, the front enders of Donny and Macky giving Paul and Mal the enjoyment of filling in the spaces (Macky's words not mine) - a convincing 13-shot win was justice.
With Tenby still to play Haverfordwest and Saundersfoot at home to Fishguard, it will be a case of some nail-biting until the results are known.
CLEDDAU 24
SAUNDERSFOOT
LADIES 39
The Ladies are certainly getting the games played while the weather is good. No wonder they are all sporting lovely tans.
Haverfordwest was the venue for this game against Cleddau. Marion Evans and her rink had a real old-fashioned battle with Ann Thomas, managing to hold on to win by two.
On the next rink, Lorna Bissell and her girls kept up their impressive early form to romp home by 13 shots.
Could it be even this early in the season that the Saundersfoot girls are hoping to hold onto the league trophy they won last season.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Haverfordwest skips only) were as follows:
V. Edwards, A. Hughes, K. Kennion, L. Bissell 22; W. Howells 9.
E. Shaw, J. Lee, M. Cummings, M. Evans 17; A. Thomas 15.
