COACHING
PROGRAMME
The club, in conjunction with Saundersfoot CP School, is once again running the schools coaching programme. When we first started this programme we had 20 pupils for one morning a week; it has become so popular, that this year we are having to run it four mornings a week.
Obviously, previous pupils are passing the word along. With our own junior section now a very firm 16-strong, and some marvellous talent on show, the coaches are doing something right. The rewards when you see someone shine on the green make it all worthwhile.
Although the club is lucky to have about 12 coaches accredited, with four mornings a week, we could always do with more. There has also been interest shown from two other local schools.
If you feel you would like to give something back into the game, and would like to take the coaches course, it may be possible to run a course before the start of the season proper.
If you fancy the idea, please contact Dave Robb, as soon as possible. We require a minimum of four people before a course can be organised. It really is very rewarding - why not have a go.
ST. BRIDES
TEAM MEETING
A disappointing turnout for the St. Brides meeting last week, but nonetheless, those that did make the effort, heard Tony Shaw give a brief resume of last season's results.
With their policy of rotating players, they don't expect to win many trophies; the idea is to make sure as many players as possible get a game, including the juniors in the club. Certainly the camaraderie amongst the members is excellent.
Those present had a good discussion on team selection policy and completed the night by electing Tony Shaw to continue as team captain, with Gwynfor Davies and Maurice Brewer as selectors for next season.
MANAGEMENT MEETING
Committee members are reminded that the March meeting will be held on Tuesday, commencing at 6 pm. Hopefully all members will be able to attend.
WHIST EVENING
It certainly takes more than a few days of bad weather to put the 'whisters' off turning out on a Monday night. There were, seven-and-a-half tables running last week. Coming out on top as highest scorer was Vera Burrows, taking honours as first lady was Gerry Meaney, her nearest rival being Pat Quinsee in second lady spot.
The top scoring gent on the night was Richard Jones, with his nearest challenger being Dave Robb in second spot. The highest scorer in the first half was Joyce Waters, with Kath Sutcliffe having highest score in the second half.
The booby prize was won by Barrie Lee, with the longest sitter award being taken by Beryl Marsh.
The evening raffle prizes were won by Vi Austin and Yvonne Price.
100 CLUB
The monthly draw for March was made during the weekly whist meeting on Monday.
The lucky winner of the first prize of £25 was M. Brace with number 82, while second prize of £15 went to P. Quinsee with number 59.
There are still a few places left for anyone who would like to make a last minute decision to join. Contact either Pat or George.
