For the past couple of years, Dave Greaves was the gents equivalent of the lady with the lamp, perhaps not as pretty, but nevertheless, whenever any of the menfolk were on the sick list, Dave was soon knocking at the door with his soothing words of comfort, a get well card and maybe a basket of fruit or the like.

Unfortunately, at the end of last season, he decided to hang up his first aid box, and since then the men have had to do their best to stay well, as the position was left vacant.

However, all is now well, 'so to speak'. Peter Bissell has now taken on the mantle of gents section 'sick visitor'. Whenever any of the men are ill, our very own flying doctor will appear out of the blue to sooth the fevered brow - well okay, that's perhaps a bit over the top, but he will bring a card, I promise.

Meanwhile, if you hear of any of the menfolk needing some home-made first aid, please let Peter know, as this is the only way that he can make sure the members get a visit from the club. If nobody tells him, he cannot visit. Over to you folks.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

As mentioned already, Mike has made out the sheets for the club competitions, and they are already on the notice board. Whilst we agree that there is plenty of time before the green opens, Mike is only trying to make things easy for you.

If you get down now, well before the season starts, you can relax and make sure that you have entered all the competitions that you want to enter. Every year, without fail, after the draw is made, someone always comes up to Mike and says he or she was sure they had entered a certain competition, only to find when Mike checks that they had missed it out.

Either that or, what is more common, Mike does the draw, only to find that halfway through someone has entered their name twice, which means the whole thing has to be re-drawn. So why not save all that hassle, stroll down to the green at your leisure and stick your name up on the sheets.

SICK REPORT

Just heard that the club's elder statesman, 'Uncle' Bert Berry, is not at his best at the moment. So much so, that he has moved his hall of residence to Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital. Hopefully his stay will not be of too long a duration, but meanwhile I am sure that everyone at the club will wish him a very speedy recovery.

CAPTAIN'S LOG -

LADIES STYLE

Following the mention last week from club captain Steve Arris, the ladies of the Saundersfoot team have got themselves a new captain for the forthcoming season.

Taking over the reins is Kay Kennion. She automatically becomes ladies section vice-captain, ready to step in should Beryl Lawrence be unable to fulfil any task required of her.

Kay has been a member of the club for some time now, and will certainly be willing to fight her team's corner.

Hope you have a successful and enjoyable season Kay.

ST. BRIDES

TEAM MEETING

Members of St. Brides are reminded that it is their turn to hold their team meeting and elect their captain and selectors for the coming season. The meeting will take place this Sunday in the pavilion.

So make sure that you attend the meeting lads and have your say in things.

All players past, present and future are welcome. Any newcomer to the area wishing to have a go, will also be made very welcome.

ST. ISSELL'S

SELECTIONS

Last week, the members of St. Issell's had their meeting to elect their captain and selectors for the upcoming season.

Those members that were unable to attend were given the chance to get their votes in by proxy.

Elected as team captain was John Dugmore, while the two selectors to assist John in hopefully picking a winning team will be Dave Roberts and Dave Robb.

The players had an informal meeting in which they agreed that weekly get-togethers on the green are imperative. Keep your eyes on the notice board for details lads.

WHIST EVENING

A bitter cold night probably stopped a number of regulars from attending, but the faithful few still turned out to support the 'happy' whist. There were seven tables running.

Taking top honours on the night with highest score was E. Shaw, while coming in as first lady was K. Sutcliffe, with M. Robb a close second lady. Making sure that the menfolk were not left behind was R. Irvine as first gent, while his nearest rival was J. Rose as second gent.

The first half top scorer was W. Thomas, with the second half honours going to G. Irvine. The booby prize was reluctantly claimed by M. Whitaker, while likewise the longest sitter prize went to B. Marsh.

The raffle prizes were claimed by M. Whitaker and K. Sutcliffe.
