The summer weather that suddenly came upon us last week meant a rush of fixtures - rearranged league games, club tournaments, friendlies, you name it, there was a waiting list to get onto the rinks. No sooner had you bowled your last wood and someone else was on the green, placing the mat for their trial ends. Still that is what it is all about, get the games in when the weather is good.

WHITLAND 26 SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 45

The first of a glut of games for the Saundersfoot Ladies With a few results going the wrong way, they hoped to stop the slide and get back to winning ways.

V. Ruff, C. Griffiths, M. Cummings, M. Evans 20; A. Thomas 14.

SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 42 PRIORY 38

On a high after their win against Whitland, Saundersfoot played with a confidence that has been missing for a couple of games. Although with a strange looking format from their normal turnout, the 'reserves' gave a good account of themselves to pick up four points, just the one rink losing out.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Priory skips only):

A. Hughes, A. Davies, K. Kennion, N. Crocker 21; V. Absolom 16.

V. Ruff, E. Shaw, A. Evans, C. Griffiths 21; N. Evans 22.

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 37 PENDINE 30

Unfortunately, the Pendine ladies had to travel a player down, hence the loss of quarter of their score, which as it happened made the difference to the home girls picking up six points instead of just the four.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Pendine skips only):

P. Thomas, P. Gulliver, A. J. Lewis, S. Spiller 17; B. Pickersgill 16 (after deduction).

M. Cavell, D. Rigden, A. Howells, C. Morgan 20; C. Jones 14.

SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 39 FIVE ARCHES 29

The faces were slightly more familiar for this game, but the results were just the same; a great six points gratefully put away in the pocket afterwards.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Five Arches skips only):

E. Pendlebury, A. Evans, C. Griffths, M. Evans 21; C. Morgan 18.

SAUNDERSFOOT 106 PCBA PRESIDENTS SELECT 142

As part of their anniversary celebrations, Saundersfoot entertained the PCBAS president's team.

President Ben Owens, of the Tenby club, brought along a strong team, determined to make the home club work for any honours wanted.

After the game, once again the Saundersfoot ladies laid on a wonderful three-course meal for the players. The speeches over and the gifts accepted, the bar became the busiest place in the club.

SAUNDERSFOOT 100 PARC HOWARD VETS 108

Another day, another visiting team, this time the 'Vets' from Llanelli, in the annual get together, Saundersfoot hosting the event this year.

A bunch of bowlers who take the game seriously, providing that the bar is closed, and the food is locked away, old friendships were renewed, as the visitors this time took the honours.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Parc Howard skips only):

V. Ruff, L. Hodgson, A. Howells, R. Morgan 11; G. Jones 18.

DIVISION ONE

SAUNDERSFOOT 105 (12 pts) ST. ISSELL'S 52 (2 pts)

The second meeting of these two club teams in division one, on a glorious evening, and the usual crowds flocking to find out what the noise was all about. Yes, it was the Saundersfoot first team playing their usual sedate game of bowls.

Certainly they were not intending taking things easy against their struggling club-mates. Likewise, the St. Issell's lads did not mean to give them an easy ride.

Things went drastically wrong for Dave Roberts's rink with no answer to Steve Poole's foursome. Eighteen-nil down at tea, they managed just seven shots in reply.

Don Poole's and Dave Robb's rinks had a real old-fashioned sizzler. It was even-stevens at 15-all at the penultimate end, Dave Robb managing to steal the thunder with his last wood.

John Moffat was doing well at tea against the rampant Berwyn Dennis rink, only for the wheels to come off in style with four dropped fours in succession.

John Dugmore and Dave Poole are old adversaries, but the strong home team drew away to win well.

Still, two points much appreciated by the St. Issell's lads. I am sure I heard somewhere that Pat Currie, of Tenby, was so delighted he was going to buy Dave Robb a large whisky for winning his rink!

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first):

B. Deeley, B. Berry, P. Blayney, D. Poole 15; N. Ruff, P. Bissell, R. Morgan, D. Robb 19.

R. Brabon, M. Brace, M. Dennis, S. Poole 35; D. Stokes, D. Newton, M. Gouldingay, D. Roberts 7.

G. Spiller, K. Taylor, T. Cummings, D. Poole 26; R. Kennion, T. Shaw, D. Howells, J. Dugmore 10.

J. Roberts, G. Hughes, M. Brace, B. Dennis 25; D. Greaves, T. Jones, A. Brace, J. Moffatt 16.

SAUNDERSFOOT 87 MILFORD HAVEN 54

Saundersfoot played host to Milford Haven in glorious weather (writes The Ferret).

After the two captains made their speeches, the play commenced.

Rink one came out with a comfortable win in the end.

Rink two had a close game at the start, but also raced home in the end.

Rink three saw all four of them peppering the jack to come out easy winners.

Rink four scraped through with a five-shot win.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Milford skips only):

G. Cavell, G. Hughes, Mk. Brace B. Dennis 21; P.Collins 15.

R. Brabon, Mv. Brace, M. Dennis, S. Poole 23; E. Sturley 16.

FISHGUARD 63

Saundersfoot played home to Fishguard this week in the Bob Diment Cup and won the game easily, except the rink of Tony Cummins - never mind Tony, perhaps next time.

The next round of the cup will be against Milford Haven away. Lets have another good result lads (writes The Ferret).

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Fishguard skips only):

J. Spiller, K. Taylor, J. Roberts, T. Cummins 17; D. Hughes 23.

G. Cavell, G. Hughes, Mk. Brace, B. Dennis 34; R.Pollard 13.

R. Brabon, Mv. Brace, M. Dennis, S. Poole 30; K. Grace 13.

B. Deeley, P. Gray, P. Blayney, D. Poole 33; R. Jones 14.

MANY THANKS

One of the highlights of the game between Saundersfoot and St. Issell's menfolk, was the appearance just before the start of Amanda Lewis and Katherine Blayney in dual coloured shirts - the green that the club use on their league shirts and the white that the team drawn away use, when the two play each other.

As Kath said, although hubby Paul is captain of Saundersfoot, she has friends that play for St. Issell's, and she wanted to support both teams. A lovely idea and much appreciated by the players.

Once again, Burberries, who sponsor the club, have come out as top notch people.

THE SICK, LAME AND LAZY REPORT

There have been that many reports of people being ill. I would have run out of paper telling you about them all, but after many requests here goes.

Firstly there was Elaine Shaw, a very friendly lady who decided that rather than let hubby Tony run about after her, she would let him share the lurgie. Then there's Lorna Bissell, who is so ill even the doctors don't know what's wrong with her; she likes to keep folks guessing I think. Joyce Waters has had the lurgie and been in hiding, and Mary Cavell has been spending more time in hospital than on the green - maybe she likes the doctors?

Then, of course, there is 'er indoors' who spent a couple of nights in hospital having a finger repaired - not as some suggested after sticking a left hook on me (she uses the right for that!).

Have you noticed a similarity in all these reports? Yes, with the exception of Tony, they are all female. Now I am not a MCP, but are they the 'weaker sex'? I rest my case, my lud.

WELL DONE GARETH

Congratulations to young Gareth Hughes. Last Saturday he played in the county finals of the Under 18 and Under 25 competitions. Up against Mark Jones in both finals, Gareth showed maturity beyond his years to bowl his way to success in both competitions with style and panache. All at the Saundersfoot club are delighted at Gareth's success.

CONGRATULATIONS

Saundersfoot ladies did the club proud last week in the Margaret Bryant Tournament in Milford Haven.

All three teams got through to the last stages on the Sunday, with the rink of Shirley Spiller. Amanda Lewis, Margaret Robb and Diane Rigden losing out in the final to Haverfordwest.

Well done girls, once again you have shown your talent at the top level.
