We have all said it on numerous occasions, I am sure, 'how time flies.' It certainly seems that way to me this season anyway. It is really hard to believe that it is over five months ago that the green opened.

The weather was definitely better this season than last; I only used the wet suit once that I can remember. Or am I tempting fate by mentioning that side of things whilst we still have tomorrow's club finals day, plus of course about another six friendlies still to come. Perhaps discretion had better kick in, and I will not mention the weather again until the season is well and truly over.

I was amazed to see all those bowlers from the county last Friday down at the Information Centre in Kilgetty. There they all were, bubbling with excitement, full of nerves, all talking nine to the dozen (and that was only the menfolk). The ladies could not wait to get onto the coach, whilst the menfolk probably felt similar, so that they could get back to bed and a weekend's peace and quiet.

CLUB FINALS DAY

All those taking part in the finals tomorrow are asked to make sure that they know exactly what time they are due to get onto the rink.

Please remember that all times are approximate - you could be on that bit earlier, or even later than planned. Please make sure that you err on the side of caution and be that bit earlier. All games are, of course, played in all white.

Mike has arranged the markers for all the singles games, and things kick off nice and early at 9 am. The programme, all carefully worked out by Mike, is on display on the noticeboard.

With a number of people in one, two or even more finals, it is imperative that things run to schedule as much as possible; please do your bit to make it do so.

Please also remember that the presentation of the trophies will be later that evening in the pavilion. A buffet will be supplied and all club members are invited.

S'FOOT LADIES 53 AMMANFORD LADIES 55

It is not often that the ladies of the club manage to play a friendly solely made up of ladies. This is the second time that Ammanford have come to Saundersfoot, unfortunately when it came to a reciprocal visit, we could not manage to make up a team. A great pity, as the Ammanford girls are great fun and give a good account of themselves on the green.

Three rinks of triples had a smashing day, with a close call for the outright winner, the home team winning on two of the three rinks.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Ammanford skips only):

Y. Price, P. Richards, J. Waters 13; W. Davies 22.

B. Davies, N. Crocker, M. Robb 21; C. Price 16.

E. Shaw, V. Edwards, B. Lewis 19; P. Owen 17.

ST. THOMAS 74 (4 pts)

ST. ISSELL'S 96 (10 pts)

You could say that it was slightly obvious that this was the last league game of the season for both teams, and as nothing was at stake, there would not be too much in the way of good bowling.

The exact opposite happened, however. The home team were determined to get as many points as possible so that they would finish above their club mates in the league, whilst the St Issell's lads were equally determined to finish the season with a terrific winning record.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, St. Thomas skips only):

R. Kennion, P. Bissell, H. Jones, D. Robb 43; R. Harries 9.

A. Gibbs, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 15; L. Frayling 23.

P. Gray, J. Austin, S. Arris, J. Shields 19; P. 'Bus' Jenkins 25.

D. Stokes, D. Newton, M. Gouldingay, A. Brace 19; D. Hughes 17.

ST. KATHS 92 (14 pts)

ST. BRIDES 58 (0 pts)

The last game of the season for the St. Brides lads saw them travel to Milford to meet up with St. Kaths. The result was a nothing event, and the game showed the St. Brides lads gave their all and were desperately unlucky not too pick up a couple of points along the way, two of the rinks only losing out by one shot.

Rink scores (St. Brides first, St. Kaths skips only):

D. Williams, L. Allen, J. John, G. Davies 17; T. John 18.

N. Griffiths, J. Bingham, C. Thomas, M. Brewer 17; P. Harries 18.

L. Waters, D. Pope, J. Tombs, J. Lawrence 16; A. Robson 23.

G. Phillips, T. James, G. T. Shaw, J. Davies 8; D. Joyce 33.

SAUNDERSFOOT 154 BELLE VUE 91

Belle Vue have been regular visitors to Saundersfoot over the past five years or so, a coach load of players and supporters always making this friendly fixture a day to enjoy.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Belle Vue skips only):

L. Statters, J. Austin, J. John, T. Bullock 25; D. Waite 13.

T. Shaw, M. Bullock, N. Crocker, D. Robb 32; J. Hiscock 12.

L. Waters, A. Evans, R. Kenyon, K. Taylor 29; D. Paddington 11.

J. Boseley, Y. Price, K. Kennion, J. Dugmore 19; N. Lyons 20.

E. Shaw, E. Pendlebury, P. Bissell, G. Cavell 18; K. Bateley 22.

O. Bullock, J. Bingham, A. Williams, M. Gouldingay 31; R. Morgan 13.

THE WANDERERS RETURN

Sunday evening late saw the return of the county ladies, under the guidance of lady president, Julia King Thomas.

The laughter and noise from the coach as it pulled into the car park left the menfolk, eagerly awaiting their better halves, under no illusion that they had all enjoyed themselves.

My 'mole' in situ informs me that there were some nocturnal goings on, I mean to say a pyjama party at their ages? The mind boggles, and I doubt whether I will ever be able to listen to Geri Halliwell singing 'It's raining men' without the picture of certain ladies miming the words. Please don't ask me to elaborate folks, I feel rather weak at the knees as it is.

Oh, and by the way, they did actually play some bowls whilst they were away, two friendlies, and a county game on the Sunday. The results don't really matter, in fact half of the women cannot remember them anyway. A full report will follow, once my correspondent gets back to normal.

RECORD

BREAKERS

With St. Issell's finally completing their second division programme, it seems that they not only created a stir with their results in the Brewers Cup, but their league exploits have got people trawling through the record books.

Despite losing their first two games against Pembroke Dock 'A', they won the rest, with a fantastic scoring record into the bargain. It will take a special performance to equal or better in the future.

The figures are as follows: Played 18, won 16, lost 2, drawn nil. Pts for 294, against 44. Shots - plus 632.

A brilliant performance. Whether they will be able to continue that in division one, remains to be seen; the players just intend to make sure they enjoy the experience.

SAUNDERSFOOT 131 MILFORD BOWLING CLUB 120

The second friendly in two days for the Saundersfoot team, and once again the members came up trumps by putting their names forward for selection.

Club captain Dave Robb has received marvellous support from the members this season, being able to choose from a varied selection of players for nigh on every game.

Milford were playing their second game of a week's tour, and having beaten Tenby the day before, were hoping to repeat the dose against the villagers.

Bets were being raised that no mention would be made in this column about the fact that yours truly missed out on a 'Hot Shot' because I was slightly heavy on the wood. That proves them wrong, I just did not want to embarrass the visitors, honest?

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Milford skips only):

D. Pope, V. Austin, D. Newton, L. Bissell 17; M. Hunter 27.

L. Statters, P. Richards, R. Kennion, D. Robb 18; T. Tobbutt 24.

B. Tombs, Y. Price, S. Arris, J. Dugmore 39; C. Johnson 8.

N. Griffiths, J. Austin, N. Crocker, M. Robb 19; R. Hunt 17.

P. Thomas, T. Shaw, K. Kennion, K. Taylor 19; M. Potter 19.

B. Davies, G. Davies, C. Griffiths, J. Smalley 19; R. Lake 25.

LADIES

MEETING

The Ladies Section will be holding a meeting in the clubhouse at 6 pm on Monday (September 10).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

NARROW BIAS

When the flower of Scotland left its roots, everyone must have been shouting for joy. He now thinks he can become a leek, but the only thing is his accent lets him down (writes 'Guess Who').

Now that the big 60 has reached all parts, we would like to wish him Happy Birthday, and happy memories, as we gather now he sleeps on his own, as he has requested two single rooms on our 2002 tour. The mind boggles.

Keep trying my flower, you might become a Welsh daffodil.
