Talk about after the Lord Mayor's Ball, all the excitement the previous few weeks, with the two teams winning the leagues, and then it is all down to earth, and dare I say it, the atmosphere if anything seemed a bit flat. Maybe it was all just too much at the one time. Don't forget we have not been used to all this excitement for some years.
It was all very enjoyable, so much so, that Graham Poole has issued leaflets to all club members expressing his wish that we do the same thing next season.
PEMBROKE
DOCK PARK 39
ST. ISSELL'S 36
Whilst everyone was basking in the excitement, the ladies of St. Issell's were carrying on the good work of the season, by trying to move up the league that little bit. Whilst no chance of trophies, they are still enthusiastic, and doing their darndest to improve on last year's placing.
Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Pembroke Dock Park skips only):
P. Thomas, V. Austin, A. Williams, B. Lawrence 22; P. Young 14.
L. Statters, Y. Price, M. Cavell, S. Spiller 12; B. James 25.
SAUNDERSFOOT 42
CLEDDAU 32
Things are looking just that little bit tight at the top of the ladies league at the moment. The Saundersfoot girls are top of the pile, but have Fishguard breathing rather hotly down their necks. If they keep playing as they did in this game, and trusting a little on Lady Luck leaning their way, hopefully they will be joining their club mates on the winners' rostrum.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Cleddau skips only):
V. Edwards, C. Griffiths, J. Waters, T. Mearns 21; K. Frayling 16.
E. Pendlebury, A. Davies, M. Cummings, M. Evans 23; R. Webb 16.
PEMBROKESHIRE FINANCIAL SERVICES
A quick reminder to all members that the club sponsors PFS are holding one of their social evenings in the pavilion on Wednesday, September 5, at 7.30 pm. The talk will be given by the representative of the Prudential, and promises to be an interesting subject.
This will be followed by a buffet prepared by the fair hands of our very own intrepid ladies. If it is half as enjoyable as the last social they organised, PFS will have to sell tickets.
TROPHIES
If you were one of the successful players last year who took home a trophy after the finals night, this message is for you. Just in case you have been asleep for the past few weeks, or been on holiday and not seen the notice board, Saturday, September 8, is this season's club finals day, which means that all trophies should be returned to Mike Gouldingay by tomorrow (Saturday) at the very latest. Oh and please make sure that you clean them first. Mike's wife Margaret has run out of cleaning materials.
Seriously folks, if you have a trophy, get it back ASAP.
LADIES TOUR
If you are walking round the village of Saundersfoot this weekend and find it rather quiet, and a distinct lack of ladies, don't worry there has not been a mass cull of the fair sex, or a spiriting away by aliens (no luck there then). It is just that the ladies of the bowling fraternity have all disappeared to Somerset to play a ladies county tour, under the guidance of county president of the ladies Julia King thomas. If last year's tour is anything to go by, they are in for an enjoyable time. Hope the weather stays fair for you girls.
A CLOSET ACROBAT
Feeling rather sore and more or less in agony, Alma Howells had to withdraw from a number of games last week. She awoke on the Thursday in sheer agony in her back. Now Alma as we all know likes her bowls, and if she withdraws from the game then she is bad. When yours truly enquired after her well being (as one does) I was led to believe that perhaps her secret acrobatics from the wardrobe could explain the agony.
Now I personally can not understand what a woman of her tender years meant. Is it some secret ceremony that her and Don carry out? Unfortunately dear reader, both of them failed to elaborate, leaving us to speculate.
ST. BRIDES 109 (14 pts)
BORDERERS 49 (0)
How does the old saying go? Revenge is sweet. If that is the case, then the St. Brides players must have a heck of a sweet tooth after this game. The previous encounters had seen the Borderers team give the village lads a bit of a pasting, but a number of games have gone since then, and the Brides are gaining experience every game. A well deserved 14 points sees the Villagers move off the bottom of the league, albeit maybe only for a short spell.
Rink scores (St. Brides first, Borderers skips only):
D. Williams, L. Allen, G. Davies, M. Dennis 34; D. Ford 10.
L. Waters, D. Pope, J. Tombs, J. Lawrence 26; E. George 13.
T. Shaw, T. James, S. Poole, J. Davies 25; T. Williams 12.
N. Griffiths, C. Thomas, B. Griffiths, M. Brewer 24; R. Croft 14.

WHITLAND 32
They do say that where there is life there is hope, and the Saundersfoot ladies are still in there hoping that things might still swing their way and teams might lose the odd point or gain the odd point where it might still count. Meanwhile, they have got to keep winning.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Whitland skips only):
E. Pendlebury, A. Davies. J. Waters, T. Mearns 29; E. Pratt 14.
B. Tombs, N. Crocker, L. Bissell, M. Cummings 14; V. Whiteford 18.

CORBY BC TOURERS 116
Now that the league season is nigh on done and dusted, the club has a host of friendly games to finish off the season with. The visitors last week were the members of Corby BC, originally Stewarts and Lloyds, and connected with the big steelworks in Corby. Although the works have gone, the Bowls Club is still strong. A cracking game in great enjoyable company.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Corby BC Tourers skips only):
E. Davies, B. Tombs. R. Kennion, J. Smalley 28; N. Gibb 12.
G. Phillips, V. Austin, P. Bissell, P. Blayney 26; R. Baldwin 23.
E. Shaw, J. Tombs, A. Williams, D. Robb 15; W. Keeney 22.
