The weather once again has been instrumental in making sure that the green has been kept busy. There seems to be more enjoyment about playing in sunshine than in the pouring rain, but maybe I am mistaken.

LADIES LEAGUE

ST. ISSELL'S 31

PEMBROKE DOCK 39

The Saints' Ladies have been having an up and down season so far, winning games that they expected to lose and vice-versa. This was always going to be one of those 'will they, won't they' games and, as luck would have it, the dice fell the wrong way. Beryl Lawrence's rink had a cracking game, while Beryl Lewis, against old adversary Jean Harris, lost out.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Pembroke Dock skips only):

I. Sampson, M. Robb, A. Williams, B. Lawrence 21; D. Davies 17.

V. Austin, L. Statters, S. Spiller, B. Lewis 10; J. Harris 22.

FIVE ARCHES 31

SAUNDERSFOOT 54

The Saundersfoot Ladies are riding high this season. Back to their best and full of confidence, they are certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Five Arches skips only):

A. Davies, N. Crocker, M. Cummings, M. Evans 25; C. Morgan 18.

A. Evans, C. Griffiths, L. Bissell, V. Edwards 29; V. Williams 13.

DIVISION TWO

ST. ISSELL'S 121 (14 pts)

CASTLE 57 (0)

The St. Issell's players are playing some cracking bowls these days in their pursuit of honours. Playing as a team, you can sense the spirit as they urge each other's rink on to better things. The Castle lads were in a state of shock at the end of this game, as time and again the home team's woods trailed through to make it a big count.

With a workload of seven games in the next 10 days to look forward to, the Saints' hopes of honours this season will all depend on how they get it together over these next couple of weeks.

Rink scores (Saints first, Castle skips only):

G. Hughes, J. Austin, J. Shields, D. Roberts 30; M. Hunt 24.

M. Gouldingay, R. Morgan, H. Jones, D. Robb 31; T. Chalmers 9.

D. Stokes, D. Newton, J. Evans, A. Brace 27; W. Hall 12.

B. Deeley, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 33; J. Jones 12.

ST. ISSELL'S 97 (14 pts)

PEMBROKE DOCK B 61 (0)

Their second game of the weekend saw the St. Issell's players entertain the Pembroke Dock B team, who are the dark horses of the league. They sort of creep up on teams, sneak a couple of rinks and disappear before you know what has hit you.

On this occasion they came up against a determined St. Issell's squad fighting hard for each other. Even being a number of regulars short, the home team still pull together to get the desired points.

Following on from the previous day's fullhouse, another determined performance from St. Issell's saw them pick up another jackpot of 14 points.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Pembroke Dock B skips only):

M. Goulidngay, R. Morgan, H. Jones, D. Robb 21; C. Hughes 13.

D. Stokes, D. Newton, J. Evans, A. Brace 25; M. Young 17.

J. Roberts, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 24; S. James 16.

J. Austin, M. Brace, J. Shields, D. Roberts 27; J. Woods 15.

CASTLE 89 (14 pts)

ST. BRIDES 63 (0)

You can only feel sorry for the St. Brides lads. The previous day they had watched as club mates St. Issell's trounced their opponents Castle. Hoping to catch them still in a state of shock, they travelled on a high, but unfortunately the rub of the green was not to be theirs.

Two rinks lost out by just two shots, one by just four. On each occasion it was the last bowl from the opposition that took the shots.

I think the saying 'spitting feathers' would suffice.

Rink scores (St. Brides first, Castle skips only):

E. Davies, T. Shaw, G. Davies, J. Lawrence 19; T. Chalmers 23.

G. Phillips, D. Williams, P. Sampson, J. Davies 11; D. Absalom 28.

P. Lewis, T. James, J. Cleaver, B. Duckworth 17; J. M. Jones 19.

L. Waters, C. Phillips, J. John, M. Brewer 16; W. Hall 18.

MEN'S OPEN WEEK

The draw has been made for the Open Week, which commences on Sunday, July 22. Mike, where possible, and where he has been asked, has made allowances for those people who would find it difficult to play on the opening day.

The full draw is on show in the foyer of the pavilion, so if you have entered, it would certainly be beneficial to nip down and have a look to see when you are due to play.

Would all players please note that all games up to the final stages will be played as usual in greys and white tops.

Please also make sure that you are at the ground in plenty of time for your scheduled game. Don't turn up a couple of minutes before your due start time - you never know, an early finish from the game in front of yours and you could be starting that good bit earlier than expected. Please help us to help you, and get along if you can half-an-hour before your due start time.

Oh, and as a matter of interest, if you have not already paid Mike, bring some cash with you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Alma Howells will be cursing me for mentioning her birthday. I am sure she thought that I had forgotten, but what the heck, live dangerously, that is what I say. I refuse to mention just how old she is today (I may be silly, not brave). Let's just say she is in her prime. Have a nice day Alma.

OPEN EVENING

All members are reminded that club sponsors, Pembrokeshire Financial Services, are holding an open evening in the pavilion on Monday evening, starting at 7.30 pm. Everyone is welcome to come along, have a chat, have some food, have a glass or three of wine, and meet the people who are backing our club for the next few years - and you never know, you might learn something to your advantage.

MANAGEMENT MEETING

The management meeting originally scheduled for July 8, is being held this Tuesday evening at the pavilion at 6 pm. All members please attend.

PRESENTATION

The club was delighted to receive a bench (see below) from Phylis Morris, donated in memory of her late husband Ron, who was the club president. The bench has pride of place by the green.
