DIVISION TWO

GOSCAR 73 (4 pts)

ST. BRIDES 86 (10)

St. Brides have managed to pick up the odd point or two as they have learned their trade this season, only managing to win one game outright. But they doubled their tally in one swift movement last Tuesday with a fighting win against Goscar.

With two rinks winning, captain John Lawrence was threatening to buy drinks all round again, but managed to restrain himself in time. All credit to the St. Brides players for their determination, what they may lack in skills, they make up for in enthusiasm.

Rink scores (St. Brides first, Goscar skips only):

G. James, C. Thomas, P. Sampson, J. Davies 29; J. Hubbard 19.

J. Bingham, J. Cleaver, J. Tombs, J. Lawrence 24; S. Diment 11.

T. Shaw, J. John, N. Ruff, R. Brabon 16; L. Hilling 21.

DIVISION TWO

ST. ISSELL'S 135 (14)

BORDERERS 36 (0)

The third meeting of these two teams, and again the youngsters of Whitland brought their enthusiasm with them.

Up against experienced bowlers, they never give up trying, hopefully nurtured properly, they will continue to improve, and in a couple of years, who knows?

R. Kennion, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 32; D. Jenner 7.

M. Gouldingay, P. Bissell, H. Jones, D. Robb 37; R. Croft 8.

G. Cavell, D. Newton, A. Brace, M. Brace 37; D. Ford 10.

J. Roberts, D. Greaves, J. Shields, D. Roberts 29; T. Williams 9.

ST. ISSELL'S 81 (11)

PEMBROKE DOCK A 72 (3)

The previous two meetings of these teams had seen the Dockers beat the Saints in both league games. With a 100 per cent record so far in the Brewers Cup, the home team were looking to a change of fortune. Certainly Dave Robb's rink went for the jugular, 20 points clear at the 12th end and things looked rosy, but 19 dropped shots in just seven ends nearly took the shine of a needed win, anyone know how to spell complacency?

John Dugmore had a real old battle with old rival Brian Morgan, running out eight shot winners. Macky Brace lost out by three to Graham Bann, while Dave Roberts, saw his opposite number Dave Halward pick up a two on the last to make it a creditable draw. Overall a great result for the 'Saints'.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Dockers skips only):

G. Cavell, D. Newton, J. Roberts, M. Brace 15; G. Bann 18.

S. Arris, D. Greaves, J. Shields, D. Roberts 18; D. Halward 18.

R. Kennion, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 22; B. Morgan 14.

M. Gouldingay, P. Bissell, K. Taylor. D. Robb 26; G. Thomas 22.

SAUNDERSFOOT

LADIES 42

The Dock Ladies are a strong force in the Ladies League this season.

The Saundersfoot Ladies were short of a few key players, but enthusiasm was riding high. However, a win on one rink was the best they could do.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot Ladies first, Pembroke Dock skips only):

A. Davies, K. Kennion, P. Richards, T. Mearns 17; J. Harris 31.

A. Evans, N. Crocker, L. Bissell, M. Evans 25; D. Davies 23.

ON THE HOUSE!

How would you like a free drink, some free food, and a pleasant evening learning something to your advantage, what's the catch? None at all, the club's main sponsors, Pembrokeshire Financial Services, are holding an open evening in the pavilion on Monday, July 16, starting at 7.30 pm. There will be a free glass of wine, a buffet, and a chat about how to make your money work for you. Not painful is it? The management committee hope that the club members will show the same support to PFS as they have to the club.

THE PERFECT DIET

Paul Gray thought that he had hit upon the perfect way to lose a few pounds the other day.

After a game at Heatherton, he had gone for a shower (a horrible thought) but when he saw how much he had lost whilst getting dressed he panicked.

You see, putting his hand in his pocket, he found his wallet was missing!

Retracing his steps, he came back to the green, where it had been found, and was being kept in a safe place.

It seems he had dropped it earlier in the morning. I somehow cannot see Paul's new venture, 'How to lose pounds without really trying' being much of a success, I would rather keep my wallet in my pocket.

LADIES OPEN TOURNAMENT

Following on from the hugely successful open tournament the other week, organiser Gloria Dugmore would like to thank all those who sponsored the event, helping to make sure it stayed as a 'must' event for all ladies in the county.

The following sponsored the tournament: The Swallow Tree; Mrs. Powell; Shrublands; Don and Pat Poole; Lewis and Wright; M. and M. Windows; Sandyhill Nurseries; C. and N. Griffiths; Rocky Park Autos, of Tenby; and an anonymous donation. Thanks to all for their support.

A BUSY TIME

You have all heard the old saying about the long wait for a bus, then three coming along at once? That is how the Saundersfoot men's team felt last weekend. After a couple of weeks of no games, they suddenly found themselves with two home games on the trot. Saturday saw them entertain First Division new boys Five Arches, of Tenby. In a thrilling game, they managed to pick up 10 points, winning on two of the rinks. Berwyn Dennis and Dave Poole headlining the two losing rinks. On the Sunday they entertained Haverfordwest, who, if the truth be known, are having a hard time of this season.

On a couple of occasions it looked like they could get back to winning ways, but the home team kept their cool and won on all four rinks for maximum points.

WHO NEEDS

ALAN TITCHMARSH?

A couple of months ago at one of the management meetings, it was agreed that something should be done about the border up by the tennis courts. The rest of the borders are looking a treat thanks to the hard work and dedication of those members who tend to them and plant the many flowers. But the borders mentioned at the tennis end were rather an eyesore.

As the ground was that hard, it was at one time a thought to get the demolition squad in. Instead, however, the committee decided to get it landscaped and lay down some slabs and the odd shrub.

Who better to get the job done than Paul Gray, who has already altered a number of the members' gardens, with his vision and ideas.

Boy can this guy work! Already the place is looking a treat, the area round the benches has all been cleaned out and Paul has made umpteen changes. I will not reveal too much at this stage, after all it is Paul's baby, so to speak, but I have seen his plans, and I tell you, people will be coming to the Green just to see the gardens, never mind the bowling.

Suffice to say that thankfully Paul is a member of our club, if he improves the area too much, we won't be able to get near the garden for the coach companies, disgorging their passengers to view the gardens.
