It has been a wee while since you have had to fight to get a spare rink down at the green. It could be that the glorious weather had something to do with it as it encourages people to take up the game. The club competitions should be well ahead of themselves this year.
ST ISSELL'S 101
GOSCAR 51
Hoping to carry on their winning ways in the Brewers Cup, St Issells entertained the lads from Goscar on a glorious evening.
By the time Bill Bailey had killed off three ends, making his rink play on whilst everyone else was up in the bar, it began to get slightly chilly.
Thankfully Bill decided not to try and kill another end, or it could have been candles at dawn!
Results, (St Issell's first Goscar skips only):
S. Arris, J. Austin, D. Howells, J. Moffatt 30; G. Crawford 10.
G. Cavell, D. Stokes, J. Shields, J. Roberts 28; J. Taylor 14.
R. Kennion, P. Bissell, D. Greaves, D. Robb 22; B. Bailey 14.
P. Gray, D. Newton, M. Gouldingay, A. Brace 21; L. Hilling 13.
WELL DONE
When the request went out for someone to take on the task of caring for a piece of the border round the green, one of the first to step forward was Paul Gray, and what a marvellous job he has done of his 'little bit of garden'.
He has created a rockery complete with shells and even ostrich eggs to set it off.
Someone suggested if he included a water feature, we could open the gardens to the general public and charge admission!
Seriously, a lot of time and effort from Paul has made the place look a treat.
Likewise a number of other members have stepped forward to help out, making the green surrounds once again a real treat to look at.
From the management committee and the rest of the members, a great big thank you to all the gardeners.
SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 54
LADYBIRDS 29
Saundersfoot Ladies entertained the Ladybirds from Milford last week, and, once again, the visitors found themselves having to forgo a quarter of one rink score owing to being a player short.
However, the forceful home team did not really need help, as they stormed away to a convincing win.
Results were (Saundersfoot first, Ladybird skips only):
A. Evans, P. Richards, M. Cummings, J. Waters 32; M. Daye 14.
A. Davies, C. Griffiths, L. Bissell, M. Evans 22; J. Carling 15 (after deduction).
GREEN FINGERS
Just to add to the plaudits to those people who are making the green surrounds look a treat with the flowers etc, the club must also say a big thank you to Don Stokes, who for the past couple of years has been making three or four hanging baskets to display on the pavilion.
Don pays for the flowers himself, and also spends many an hour going round the surrounds weeding, sometimes in the middle of a game after he has delivered his woods!
This weekend he donated a couple of baskets of plants for the club to use as it wishes. It is the likes of Don, and everyone else who gives of their efforts and money to benefit the club, that makes Saundersfoot a friendly bunch to be round.
ST ISSELL'S 78
FISHGUARD 72
Another cracker of a day saw Fishguard travel to Saundersfoot to try and gain revenge for the defeats by St Issell's last year.
At tea break it certainly looked like their wish was to be granted, as both the Dave Roberts and Alan Brace led rinks were down and looking completely out of it, whilst Dave could not quite get the shots to win, Alan with George Cavell at third, Derek Newton and Mike Gouldingay at lead gave an astonishing show of determined bowling to come back from a 14 shot deficit at the 17th end to win by one shot in the process picking up a couple of sixes with some cracking take out shots by first Alan then George. An excellent performance.
Elsewhere on the green, Dave Robb's rink started off well, relaxed letting the opposition back into it, then stepped up a gear to win comfortably. John Dugmore with his usual motley crew took the lead early on and never looked in danger.
Results (Saundersfoot first, Fishguard skips only):
P. Gray, D. Greaves, J. Shields, D. Roberts 11; M. Power 21.
M. Gouldingay, D. Newton, G. Cavell, A. Brace 21; K. Grace 20.
B. Deeley, R. Kennion, R. Morgan, D. Robb 23; T. Jones 16.
D. Stokes, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 23; D. Hughes 15.
This win gives St Issell's 12 valuable points with Fishguard receiving two points.
ON THE MEND
In order to answer the many requests after the health of Pat Quinsee, I can inform everyone that Pat is back recuperating at the moment, at the Park Home.
She hopes to be home shortly, and get down to the green to say thanks to all those who sent cards.
