On Saturday, the Rome Windows sponsored 1st XI played host to Swansea League side West End at Saundersfoot.

With both sides undefeated this term and West End with an excellent record in in the West Wales Cup over the last half-dozen years, a good crowd was hoping for a feast of football.

Match ball sponsor was ex-player and life-time supporter, Cliff Jones, who was hoping that his team could progress further in this competition.

The first half was to be mainly a one-sided affair, with West End playing some fast and furious football with neat inter-changing and passing, playing the ball wide and into feet; and it was no great surprise when they scored after 25 minutes.

Saundersfoot slowly came into the match. Now they matched the Swansea outfit with their pace, and the last 20 minutes saw some end to end stuff, with Saundersfoot creating a few chances to score, but the final touch in the last quarter of the field let them down.

The second half saw Saundersfoot come at West End looking for the equaliser and they came close through Paul Evans and Steve Davies.

Indeed, Saundersfoot looked the more likely to score, but with pushing to get the equaliser, left gaps at the back.

With five minutes remaining, West End got the second goal to seal the match, with no time left for Saundersfoot to come back.

Both managers, Phil Jones and Johnny Watkins, were very pleased after this performance against a strong Swansea League team. This week it is back to the league and both will be looking for the same type of performance week in week out.

SECOND XI

The SSSC sponsored 2nd XI match was called off in mid-week, so their status at the bottom of Reserve Division One has not altered.

Tomorrow (Saturday) they have an away trip to bottom half side Fishguard. With a full squad available, the management team of Spencer and Phillips will be looking for a good performance from the team after disappointment at Narberth.

YOUTH

On Saturday, the Under 16s had a comfortable win against Hundleton at Saundersfoot. With conditions not in Saundersfoot's favour, they still managed the three points with a 3-1 victory.

The Under 13s, fresh from a 6-4 win the previous Saturday at Solva, entertained the same side at home, with ground conditions perfect.

Obviously this suited the away team best, as the Saundersfoot side put in a poor performance against a vastly improved Solva outfit.

The final score was a fair reflection on the two sides, with Solva running out winners 9-0.

The Under 11s were also home on Saturday, playing a more experienced side in Monkton.

Monkton eventually won the match 2-0, having 60 per cent of play, and possibly with luck scoring more.
