Following four successful Saturday morning ‘training sessions’ with Phil Okwedy and Peter Stevenson, Tenby Museum’s Capturing Collections: Saturday Storytelling Club starts today (April 2) between 11 am and 12 noon.
The project has been funded by the Welsh Government’s Winter of Wellbeing scheme, administered by the Welsh Federation of Museums and Galleries and the National Museum Wales. The grant allowed Phil to train four young and aspiring storytellers in some of the art and craft of storytelling, with the added bonus of a Crankie workshop by Peter Stevenson, and their work can be seen in bilingual films on the museum’s YouTube site.
Museum Curator Mark Lewis said, “This has been a fantastic few weeks and has been really inspiring. The four young people we had volunteer have been absolutely brilliant and I am looking forward to them telling their entertaining and interactive stories for those children who wish to attend. The stories will be based around an object in the museum, selected by the storytellers but will be based in creativity as opposed to history; it’s a new way of looking at objects.”
Phil Okwedy stated, “It has been a delight and a privilege to work with these four young people as they gained storytelling skills and I am excited to see where they take the Saturday Storytelling sessions next.”
