The last sandcastle competition of the season organised by the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot, brightened a somewhat dull morning weatherwise on Wednesday last week. The winners of the competition, in which again more than 50 youngsters took part, with and without help from parents, were: 'Youngsters working without help' - 1. Tom, Alice, Ricky, Jake and Geoff from Penarth and Rhos; 2. Jonathan and Katherine from Chadgley Cabutt. 'Youngsters with help' - 1. Halsea-Hall family (Sheffield); 2. Jones family (Nottingham). The event created, as ever, fun and entertainment for everyone involved, including members of the club. Every child went away with prizes generously donated by local businesses, for which the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot is most grateful. Although, having said that, not every child on the beach could be persuaded to 'have a go' - two young brothers want ed to know what the prizes were before deciding and one asked if there were any playing cards? When told that there were, he asked if they had a boy with 'spiky hair' on them or 'Pokemon'? On being told, regretfully, 'No,' he and his brother said in that case they did not want to 'have a go'! The last Duck Race of the season was swum on Sunday and raised more than £400 for donation to various charities. The 'owners' of the first three ducks over the winning line were holidaymakers: 1. Anne Heyland from Bolton; 2. Helen Peake from Shrewsbury; 3. Katie from Warwick.
