Sir,
The sandbank outside the harbour in Saundersfoot is nearly all self-made. All due to the commission not listening to the people. Their attitude over the years as they know best has not paid off.
Close to the lighthouse wall was the deepest channel in the harbour. The coalships used to come in slowly with the tide. Too fast and they would run aground and would have to wait for the sea to lift them. They would then berth and coal would start to load when the sea was still low.
The harbourmaster would make sure on his own that there would be no build-up of sand.
I don't expect the newcomers to the village know what happened 70 years ago, but they should listen to the people that know.
A 1m long 75cm pipe fitted some years ago would have saved all this.
