Saundersfoot Branch of the RNLI was delighted to welcome Hobson's Choice to the Wiseman's Bridge Inn recently.
The choir, who claim to be Europe's most inland shanty group, had travelled from Shropshire and were thrilled to be able to sing a collection of shanties, in a location so close to the beach.
The function room was full to capacity for the evening and the choir entertained with a great repertoire of shanties. It was easy to see why the choir have gained a great following and have been doing so well at recent festivals.
There was a guest appearance of a rather beguiling mermaid during the singing of The Mermaid Song and she did indeed have hair as green as seaweed!
The audience was stilled by the singing of The Lifeboat Mona, a tragic tale of eight lifeboat men who drowned during a storm in St. Andrew's Bay, Scotland, in 1959, the noise of the high-tide crashing against the rocks just outside the room, added to the ambience and the poignancy of the song.
The final song of the evening was a rousing rendition of Sloop John B, Wisemans remix version, featuring Simon, Phil, Neil and John from the Wiseman's Bridge Rowing Club.
The branch would like to thank the Wiseman's Bridge Inn for their support, the ladies for dressing up, Jack, Phil and John Rothery for the raffle prizes and everyone who came along and made this such a successful evening.
