The Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir appeared in a concert at St. Andrew's Church, Pembroke Dock last Tuesday, May 13, along with the two winning school choirs from their annual Junior Choral Competition.

The proceeds of the concert were to go to Christian Aid and on this occasion a sum in excess of £450 was raised.

The concert was attended not only by local people and parents of the school choristers, but also by a party of American members of a church group from New England, en-route to Ireland via St. Davids.

The Male Voice Choir of 30 choristers, under their conductor, David Gwynn, and accompanied by Chris Lloyd, were introduced by the minister, Rev. Martyn Evans, newly arrived from his previous ministry in Milford, a schoolboy contemporary of Phil Lloyd, the Pembroke secretary and compère for the evening.

The winning school this year was Sageston Junior School, who were conducted by Mrs. Susan Jones and accompanied by Mrs. Janice Scourfield, while the runners-up were Orielton Junior School, conducted and accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Baker.

Each choir gave the audience great pleasure when they each gave their own recitals and were each a credit in their performance, appearance and deportment.

The Wilf John Cup, named after a founder member and chairman of the Male Voice Choir for 23 years, was presented to the winners by the choir's current chairman, Mr. Frank Harries, together with a cheque for £75, while Orielton received a cheque for £50.

Monkton Priory School and Golden Grove School each received cheques for £25 as participating schools.
