Ever wondered why air traffic control is holding up your flight? Ever thought about the number of 'planes in our skies and how safe it might be up there? Is this profession of air traffic control really one of the most stressful there is? On Wednesday, November 10, at the Halliwell Centre, Trinity College, Carmarthen, the local branch of the chartered Management Institute is hosting an evening where Len Harvey, of Begelly, an ATC officer for 36 years both in the UK and the Middle East, is presenting his views on the subject. The aviation industry survives because its 'self loading cargo' survives. Without the knowledge that appropriate management and controls are in place, there would be no confidence in this method of transport. Of the many integrated disciplines involved in the process of moving human beings from A to B, the air traffic control aspect is generally little understood by many members of the public. From military experience in the RAF to his civil experience in the profession as controller, lecturer and examiner Len Harvey will outline the methods by which safety in the sky is maintained and debunk the myth that this is one of the most stressful occupations there is. The evening is free to all and starts with a buffet at 6.30, followed by the presentation at 7.30 pm. To book a place please contact Hilary Harvey (tel/fax: 01834 814567) or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected] by tomorrow (Saturday).
