Sir,

It was with sadness that the volunteer gardeners viewed the Kilgetty Community Garden on Friday morning.

Plants uprooted and scattered, seats broken, flower heads snapped and stones thrown around the grass.

It was very upsetting to see the newly-refurbished memorial plaque, commemorating the lives of local men who died in the First World War, covered in bark and 'decorated' with a snapped flower.

It was also distressing to see the bird nesting box thrown upside down on the ground so the parents couldn't feed their blue tit chicks.

The living willow arch that was beginning to grow together had been torn apart, just to give some senseless people five minutes of 'fun'.

The community garden has been created and tended with a great deal of hard work, mostly by senior citizens and these are the same volunteers who are raising funds to build a children's playground and a green gym.

How frustrating to see this mindless vandalism spoiling what has become a pleasant spot for local people to enjoy and which has received so many favourable comments.

Mrs. Margaret Moffat,

Begelly Kilgetty

Community Association.
