Local brand Princes Gate Spring Water will be at Tesco, Haverfordwest, today (Saturday, January 30) in an effort to raise much-needed funds for two very deserving local children.

Princes Gate trustees, colleagues and friends - including brand ambassador former Wales’ international Ryan Jones - will take to Watt bikes in the store foyer, hell bent on ramping up the miles cycled and funds raised!

The children for whom the team are committed to raising funds are Jack and Millie.

Jack is a five-year-old boy suffering from a multitude of chronic conditions, including autism, epilepsy developmental and speech delay asthma and a number of other chronic conditions which inhibit his daily life considerably, and that of his family.

Despite his various conditions, Jack has only been seen once by an occupational therapist due to funding constraints. The family have been privately funding the therapy with an organisation called Skybound to the tune of two hourly sessions once a week at £200 - a considerable cost to the family.

The sessions have yielded good results in that Jack has started to communicate verbally, albeit in a very basic manner. Frustratingly, both his parents and therapists believe fervently that Jack has huge potential just waiting to be unlocked should he have more intensive treatment.

The Princes Gate Trust is committed to helping fund a week’s intensive therapy for Jack via Skybound, during which they would help him progress all areas of his developmental needs. The Princes Gate Trust has committed to matching every pound raised by the cycle challenge to help bring this ambition to fruition.

Millie is a local girl living with Cerebral Palsy resulting form the trauma of having suffered an in-uterine stroke during the second trimester of her mother’s pregnancy. Millie lives with daily challenges ranging from muscular weakness, core instability, learning, speech and language limitations and sleep difficulties.

Millie’s mum is striving to raise funds for intensive one-to-one educational sessions and occupational, speech and language therapy. Her aim is to raise enough to fund three two-hourly sessions per week, a total of £2,000 to cover the first six months therapy.

Not content to leave others fundraise on their behalf, Millie’s mum is running a half marathon next March and Millie herself will participate in the Fun Run! The Princes Gate Trust would love nothing better than to contribute to their efforts.

Of the event on Saturday, chair of trustees and commercial director of Princes Gate Spring Water, Samantha Atkinson, commented: ‘We’re encouraging people to come along and participate in any way they can. There will be opportunities for members of the public to challenge Ryan Jones on a head to head basis in an effort to reach the top of the cycling leader board, so if you think you’re up to the challenge, come along to Tesco, Haverfordwest, this Saturday! If for nothing else, I encourage people to pop in to lend support to the various participants. I have no doubt that creating a spirit of camaraderie will positively impact on the total raised. The Princes Gate Trust will be match funding the final tally and we would be delighted if that was a vast figure.”

Millie and Jack are just two in a long list of local youngsters that the Princes Gate Trust have served to positively impact the lives of. The Trust ethos is to effect great change on as many young lives as possible - measurable and considerable life enhancements.
