Whitland got back to league rugby last Saturday when Maesteg were visitors to Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn for a Swalec Division One West clash.
After a month's lay-off, both sides looked a little rusty as they struggled not only with the heavy conditions, but also lack of game time, but as someone said, a win is a win.
Outside-half Emyr Williams opened the scoring with a penalty after 14 minutes, only for his opposite number, Gareth Goodridge, to level from 40 metres after 21 minutes.
Williams missed another opportunity after 29 minutes, but gave Whitland a half-time lead by slotting his second penalty just three minutes later.
Quarter-of-an-hour into the second half, with Maesteg defending desperately on their own line, loose possession from a lineout and good pressure from Whitland captain Randall Williams meant the visitors were forced to ground the ball.
From the subsequent scrum-five, quick hands by the Borderers backs and recycling by the forwards saw Carwyn Davies driving on and then slipping the ball to Ryan Michael, who forced his way over for the only try of the match, which Williams converted.
Three minutes later, Goodridge added his second penalty, but the game never really got going and after two further long range penalty efforts by Whitland fly-half Williams fell short of the target, the final score remained at 13 points to six to the Borderers.
Man-of-the-match was chosen as Ryan Michael.

Llangennech
2nd XV 47 pts.
Whitland
Wanderers XV 3
With the side struggling due to injuries, chairman Arwyn Thomas was full of praise for the boys who gave 110 per cent effort against a strong side, with Whitland's only points coming from a Darren Rees penalty.
Whitland Youth 62 pts. Llangwm 10
Llangwm arrived with only 12 players, but as Whitland's team manager said, at least they showed spirit and came to play the game, so full credit to all players and coaches for fulfilling the fixture.
Whitland ran in five tries in each half. In the first, there was a hat-trick for James Stephenson and one each for Dafydd Williams and Brinley Toms, with Stephenson converting three of them to give a half-time score of 31-nil.
In the second half, Llangwn crossed Whitland's line twice, Jake Stewart and Daniel Eade getting the tries, with Whitland again scoring five through Lewis Thomas, Shane Webster, Aled Rees, Dafydd Williams and Brinley Toms. James Stephenson again converted three of the touchdowns.
