Tenby adventurer, Rosie Swale Pope has completed the first 100 miles of her 20,000-mile voyage on two feet round the world.

Rosie, who left her home in Tenby on her 57th birthday last Thursday morning, telephoned the Observer earlier this week to report her progress.

"I am now in Newport having completed the first 120 miles," said Rosie, who is planning to do a complete circle of the earth, keeping on as much land mass as possible.

"I am doing well and managing to cover an average of 25 miles a day," continued the Tenby Turkeys and TROTS member.

"I had a wonderful send off in Tenby and all along the route people have been so kind. I really could not be doing it without their help and support. My friends Lynne, Meryl and Ann have been so kind, as have Coastal Cottages and Simon Toy, who helped me with my insurance."

The epic journey is expected to take two years to complete and will see Rosie cross Europe through Holland, Germany, Poland and Moscow, before hitting the Trans-Siberian Railway route. She will then go on to the Bering Straits, Alaska, America, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Scotland and England, before returning to the start and finishing line in Tenby.

Not only is Rosie achieving one of her dreams by embarking on the challenge, but she is also raising awareness of the Prostate Cancer Society UK in memory of her husband Clive, as well as the Siberian Railway Cancer Hospital at Omsk, the Kitezh Community for Orphan Children Orphanage and the Nepal Trust, that supports communities in the Hidden Himalayas.

"People have been so generous and supportive all along the way, I cannot thank them enough," added Rosie, who has previously sailed to Australia with her young family in a catamaran and sailed solo across the Atlantic in a 17-foot boat, as well as taking part in many other marathons and adventures around the globe.
