Vehicles on Tenby’s beaches need to adhere to a set of rules and regulations marked out, a local councillor stated this week.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby town council, Clr. Will Rossiter told his colleagues that he was concerned that there seemed to be a lot more ‘traffic’ on Tenby’s beaches.

“I realised that some vehicles have to enter the beaches for businesses and boats etc, but I’m concerned that with more development at St Catherine’s Island, there maybe more pressure on Castle Beach and a lot of disruption,” he said.

“We should ask Pembrokeshire County Council to look up a set of rules and regulations with regards to traffic on beaches, so we can monitor the situation in advance of the summer” added Clr. Rossiter.

His colleague Clr. Trevor Hallett agreed, and said that health and safety played a big factor in Tenby beaches’ Blue Flag status, so it was concerning the volume of vehicles that appeared to access the sands, especially as they are frequented by lots of families and children.

Clr. Mike Evans suggested contacting the harbourmaster to see what procedures are in place for vehicular access authorisation.
