Pembrokeshire rugby team overcame rivals Carmarthenshire in the dying minutes of this Welsh Counties Cup round-robin game held at Whitland's Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn. The side from Pembrokeshire featured a large amount of Whitland players, with nearby Narberth and Tenby also well represented in the ranks. It was Carmarthenshire who had the better of the game in the first half, opening the scoring with a try from Brynamman fullback Wayne Jones. However, the conversion was charged down by Narberth's Jack Mason. Pembrokeshire hit back early in the second half, levelling the score when Whitland centre Neil Davies crossed the line for an unconverted try. Carmarthenshire regained the lead when Pontyberem's Justin Lloyd kicked a penalty from the 22-metre line. Pembrokeshire took the lead with barely minutes of the match left when Whitland winger Ali Bowen crossed. With the conversion missed, the win was finally secured when Tenby United's Neil Powling kicked a fine drop goal from 30 metres out.
