Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Pembrokeshire tomorrow (Saturday) as they help mark 50 years of operations at Valero Pembroke Refinery.
During the visit, the royal couple will be introduced to some of the many young people who have benefited from the refinery's apprenticeship and industrial placement programmes, as well as tour an operational control room and meet a selection of the numerous charities supported by the refinery's community engagement fund.
Valero vice-president and refinery general manager, Ed Tomp, commented: "This visit is a huge honour for the refinery and recognition of the important role Pembroke Refinery and its workforce has played over 50 years, as well as the role it continues to play supporting our economy and communities here in West Wales."
Opened in 1964 by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, the refinery at Rhoscrowther is an important part of the Welsh economy, with more than a thousand people working at the site and a total throughput capacity of over 270,000 barrels per day, making it one of the largest fuel producers in Europe.
Mr. Tomp added: "I know the entire community is looking forward to welcoming the Duke and Duchess to the refinery, which looks set to be a wonderful opportunity for everyone in Pembrokeshire to celebrate."
The visit will conclude with a performance by the Young Actors Studio who works in partnership with the Refinery through The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Their Royal Highnesses will unveil a plaque and a painting by a local artist upon departure.
