Royal Mail is proposing some operational changes that would see Tenby, Narberth and Whitland delivery offices move to a new ‘purpose-built’ site in Narberth.

The operational changes proposed will see the offices merge and move to a new site in Unit 18, Rushacre Enterprise Park, Redstone Road.

“We have acquired this new site for Narberth delivery office as the existing building, in Spring Gardens, Narberth, no longer meets our requirements as we deliver more parcels and fewer letters,” said a Royal Mail spokesperson.

“The new office will be designed to meet our operational requirements and offer better facilities for our customers and our people. During the consultation with our people, postmen and women in Narberth will have the opportunity to be involved in the planning for the move.

“The new site in Narberth will also have space for our delivery operations serving Tenby and Whitland.

“We have now started to brief our unions and our people in those offices about the proposed move to give them the opportunity to discuss the implications in detail.”

The new building is expected to be ready to move the Narberth operations in during Summer, with the Tenby and Whitland delivery office moves, if they go ahead, expected to take place by Spring 2019. There are not expected to be any job losses as a result of these moves.

“This is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation of its business to increase the efficiency of its operation as well as providing delivery offices which are fit for purpose for our people and for our customers,” continued the spokesperson.

“As a commercial business, Royal Mail is responding to the huge growth in electronic communications and decline in letter volumes, while seeing a high volume of parcels and online shopping which need to be delivered to customers.

“Before any move goes ahead, detailed planning will take place to ensure a smooth transition for our operations, our people and the service we provide to our customers. There will be no impact on deliveries to our customers and the same postmen and women will continue to serve their local communities, delivering a high quality service to customers.

“There will be a customer service point for the collection of mail at the new Narberth delivery office if customers were not at home when we attempted delivery, and we could not leave the item with a neighbour.

“This will be open longer than the existing office and provide dedicated customer parking, including disabled parking bays.

“Customers do not need to collect their mail from the delivery office if they are not able to or do not want to do so. Royal Mail can now leave many mail items with a neighbour (apart from ‘Special Delivery’ items and inbound international items that require a signature) if customers are not at home when we attempt delivery. Customers can nominate a dedicated neighbour to take in their parcels by filling in a form at their delivery office.

“Customers can also arrange a redelivery free of charge on a day that is convenient for them (including Saturdays), or Royal Mail can deliver the item to a different address within the same postcode area.

“This service can be arranged by calling the number on the ‘Something for You’ card we leave or by visiting our website at www.royalmail.com/redelivery

“For customers in Tenby and Whitland, we are exploring if we can continue to offer a mail collection point in both of those communities. Further details will be announced in due course,” they added.
