The Pembroke Dock branch of the Royal Engineers Association recently held its monthly meeting at the Star Social Club.
Amongst the items discussed was the finalisation of details for the annual dinner, the proposed programme of events for the next 12 months, and three motions were submitted for the annual meeting to be held on Monday, February 24.
The hon. secretary reminds all members that their views and votes are needed at this meeting. All positions on the committee will be voted on. Please support your branch.
The branch held its annual dinner at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel on February 8, and experienced a wonderful evening. The food and wine were first class.
The principal guest, deputy controller REA, Lt./Col. N. Jordan (ret'd), gave a warm and sincere response to the chairman's welcome, and explained his experience of starting as a new boy to the REA as deputy controller HQ.
The entertainment was provided by the duo Shanghai Express and kept the branch on its feet dancing away. On several occasions the dancers' ages went from the mid-30s to a 91-year-old member, such was the versatility of this duo.
A raffle was held during the evening, and the proceeds were presented to Jean Hains, of the Oiled Birds Rescue Centre.
Amongst the winners were Mr. and Mrs. Powling; Mr. D. Taylor; Joyce Kidney; Albert Jones; Mr. and Mrs. Worley; Mr. J. Richards; Mr. Henderson; Margaret; Deryl; Mr. and Mrs. T. Poole; Mr. and Mrs. Hissey; Mrs. J. Best and Mrs. Brayford.
A good time was had by all and the branch extends its appreciation to all the staff at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, together with the duo Shanghai Express.
