Pembrokeshire College's School of Boatbuilding and Marine Engineering (MITEC) recently exhibited at the London Boat Show. During the show, the MITEC students built a wooden clinker dinghy, which proved to be very popular with the crowds. The staff and students had the opportunity to talk with show visitors, potential students and make valuable industry contacts.

HRH the Princess Royal visited the stand, watched the students working and talked to Malcolm York - the MITEC centre manager and mature student John Edginton.

"Princess Ann asked about the differences between modern day and traditional methods of boatbuilding. She was also keen to know whether students found employment easily after studying, and the answer to that was quite simply, 'yes!'," said Malcom. "In fact, many of our students travel the world with their career." MITEC are indebted to the following people who made it possible for them to attend. They were invited to exhibit at the show by Classic Boat Magazine, who had a large area dedicated to traditional power and sailing boats. John Goode, of the National Boat Shows, the event organisers, provided the accommodation for the students and staff and the Milford Haven Port Authority covered daily meal expenses through their community initiative.

It is estimated that 127,000 visitors attended the 10-day show and MITEC had a great opportunity to promote Pembrokeshire College and the boatbuilding and engineering courses at MITEC in Milford Haven.
