So successful was a 'Pig Race' held recently in the marquee at Plas Hyfryd, Narberth, that members of the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland were able to raise £600 for Ty Hafan and other Rotary charities. "We hasten to add that these were not live pigs, but were small, pink and furry with a battery-operated electric motor which made them trot and grunt along a racetrack made and supplied by Ysgol Dyffryn Taf," said a spokesman for the club. Thanks to headmaster Robert Newsome who was the excellent race organiser and with the help of his enthusiastic assistants, the Rotary punters were eagerly queuing up to place bets on the porky participants. Piggy sponsors and punters were able to win prizes of £2 to £40 on each of the eight races and there was much excitement and noise as the crowd encouraged their favourites to the finishing line. Many thanks go to president-elect Geoff Davies who organised the event and to everyone for their participation and financial contribution to this worthy cause. An excellent finger buffet provided by the staff of Plas Hyfryd sustained the punters and a raffle also helped to swell the coffers. Look out for the next race!
