The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot had a welcome guest at their meeting on Monday September 24, Mr. Tony Wall of Tenby & Saundersfoot Community First Responders. Tony gave a fascinating talk about access to, and use of, a defibrillator and the defibrillator’s ability to save lives.
The club’s members learned several key points, including the fact that using the defibrillator will not harm the patient, it assesses the patient’s condition before it proceeds and it even tells the user how to prepare the patient and how to apply the shock, all of which was reassuring to know.
The Rotary Club holds several public events throughout the year and the knowledge gained could be crucial if someone were to become seriously ill.
Tony also explained how the First Responders, who are all volunteers, have established a wide availability of defibrillators across Pembrokeshire, which they maintain, service and replace. The First Responders are often first on the scene of a serious illness or accident and they are a major contributor to saving lives; Tony is a great ambassador for them.
