Rotarians of the Tenby Club met with District Governor Clayton Heycock when he made, an official visit to the club recently to update everyone on District's current activities.
Clayton congratulated president Dr. John Bowen and his fellow Rotarians for the innovative projects, which had been brought to his attention during his visit and for the excellent working relationships that existed with the local community, thus ensuring Rotary's image of a very active and caring organisation.
He hoped that the club would help to meet the goal of Rotary International president, Dong-Kurn Lee, of South Korea, to 'Make Dreams Real' by supporting charities addressing infant mortality, under five-years old, and also the Rotary project undertaken with the Leonard Cheshire Disability, 'Schools 4 all in Africa', to provide schooling, initially for vulnerable children in Uganda.
Clayton also appealed for support for his chosen charity 'Diabetes Cymru' by raising the profile of the needs of diabetics; increased research into the causes and treatment, together with assistance and guidance for individuals, are among the ongoing priorities.
The eradication of polio is still a key priority for all Rotarians. The incidence of polio is 99 per cent lower than in the mid-1980s when Rotary had been to the fore in this task by launching their programme, but a major effort was still required to make a final push towards a polio-free world.
A key ongoing consideration for all clubs is to sustain and indeed increase membership and future generations of Rotarians are constantly being looked for; people who can bring with them a range of personal and professional resources and skills that will strengthen the club's ability to successfully serve their communities and the world. If you are interested in joining Rotary, contact the secretary on 01834 845056 and he would be very pleased to provide you with the information you require.
