Last Sunday, the Rotary Club of Tenby utilised the fantastic natural auditorium of Tenby harbour for its summer charity fund-raising event.

This was Rotary's first ever 'Party on the Harbour' and it replaced the Medieval Fayre which had been held annually in Manorbier Castle for the previous 26 years.

The event proved to be a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by thousands of visitors and locals. The atmosphere was magnificent throughout the six hours of entertainment and fun.

The Rotary Club is extremely grateful to the volunteers who gave up their valuable time to assist on the stalls and with the bucket collections and, in particular, the numerous entertainers who performed superbly, free of charge.

The entertainment included the young Seren Irish Dancers, who put on a very polished show for the appreciative crowd, and the Cleddau Mustangs Line Dancers, who had 81-year-old Peggy Parsons in their line-up and involved willing members of the audience in their splendid routine.

The headline act was the very well known local band, The Frantic Five, who played for over two-and-a-half hours, with a great medley of songs from the 1960s through to the 2000s. What a show they put on - "better than Springsteen at Glastonbury!" was one comment.

The finale of the wonderful evening was a fabulous fireworks display from the end of the pier, which regular attendees of Tenby's summer events felt was the best ever.

Over the next four Sundays, the Round Table (twice), the Lions and the RNLI will be holding events at Tenby harbour. The Rotary Club is also hoping to be able to stage a second one on August 23, but, at the time of going to press, this had not been ratified.

Finally, the Rotary Club wishes to thank harbourmaster Matt Broadhurst and assistant harbourmaster Chris Salisbury for their very hard work and help throughout last Sunday.
