Members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot were moved by the presentation, given by Dr. Ganesh, about the work of Rotary Jaipur Limb, which is an organisation offering replacement limbs in the Indian Subcontinent, some African nations and Caribbean communities recently devastated by hurricane.

Dr. Ganesh, originally from India, spent many years working in the Welsh Valleys, eventually becoming and retiring from a position as Senior Partner in a GP practice. He is a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Merthyr Tydfil and past district governor of the South Wales Rotary district. He is both a trustee of the Rotary Jaipur Limb project and country director for the Indian Sub-continent. His passion for the project was obvious as he explained to members that, using a prosthetic limb designed and first made in Jaipur over 35 years ago, the charity can fit a working leg and foot, costing less than £50 to produce, to disabled adults and children free of charge. They operate permanent limb centres in several locations and with the help of local Rotary Clubs they operate temporary limb camps in areas with great need. The recipients are without one or both legs, often due to industrial accidents, or from birth defects and illness, and in parts of Africa the need is also generated by conflict and war injuries. A camp can provide limbs to as many as 200 people in one week. In societies where such disabilities often result in isolation, lack of work and lack of self-esteem, the resulting benefits give people a life worth living. Ganesh showed a photograph of a young girl who was dancing only a few days after receiving new limbs for both legs. More information about Rotary Jaipur Limb can be found on their website www.rotaryjaipurlimb.org.u

Rotary Jaipur Limb rely wholly upon donations, to which the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot have made contributions in previous years.

Following his presentation, the club gave Dr. Ganesh heartfelt applause and again made a contribution to this worthy cause.
