The Rotary Clubs of Tenby and Saundersfoot recently came together again to arrange their 15th annual Charity Golf Day at Tenby Golf Club. Entry numbers were a record and in the unbroken sunshine a total of 29 teams of three players contested the cut glass prizes on offer. The golf, as usual, was of a high standard and featured many members of Tenby Golf Club itself in the teams sponsored by local businesses. Prize winners were: 1. Team sponsored by the Alexander Partnership, 83 points - Stephen Davies, Ian Thomas and Steve Allen; 2. F. B. Mason and Co., 82 points - Dominic Subbiani, Anthony Griffiths and John Broomhead; 3. Hi Tech Roofing Ltd., 79 points - Geoff Childs, Roy Howell and Ian Bates. Longest drive - Derek Cole (Texaco B). Nearest the pin - Alan Morton (Beach Dean Leisure). It was fitting that Geoff Childs appeared among the prize winners as this was his final competition prior to handling over the presidency of Tenby Golf Club to Ian Bates. The evening saw 91 golfers and top table guests dining before being thoroughly entertained by Phil Steele, a Radio Wales broadcaster, and, in the opinion of all those attending, a very witty and entertaining raconteur. The captain of Tenby Golf Club, Bob Lusher, extended the traditional annual welcome. And, in response, the president of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot, Haydn Williams, thanked the club for the use of its facilities, complimented the caterers for a splendid dinner and emphatically thanked all sponsors for their support to the event which since inception has raised in excess of £20,000 for worthy local charitable purposes. He hoped that a similar full and highly satisfactory day would ensue on Wednesday, September 7, 2005.
