Another successful annual Rotary Charity Golf Day took place last week, played on the historic links at Tenby Golf Club. Once again the event, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Tenby and Saundersfoot, was very well supported by local businesses, with a total of 22 teams of three taking part, one of which was headed by the present club captain, Malcolm Arlott. In dry, warm conditions, scoring proved more difficult than expected and reflected in the final scores, which saw only two teams exceed 80 points. However, over half the teams passed the 70-point mark in a concerted effort to win the quality prizes on offer. Eventually the prizes were distributed as follows: 1. Western Power (Dai John, Denzil Davies and Anthony Jobson) 83 pts; 2. Trefalun Park (Viv James, Nigel Ayers and Andrew North) 81; 3. All- Mak Services (David Morgan, Sam Morgan and Jack Guerreiro) 78. Missing out on third place by just one point was the team captained by Paul Heywood, although some consolation was gained when Paul won the nearest the pin prize. Longest drive prize was taken by Chris Hughes. A thoroughly enjoyable competition was rounded off in fine style by an evening dinner and guest speaker Phil Steele, a well-known name in BBC Wales radio and TV, who proved a most able raconteur. The Rotary Club wish to thank all team sponsors and those who responded by sponsoring individual tees. The event is now into its 17th year and is an established part of the Rotary and Golf Club calendar. Since inception, total funds raised for charity exceeds £24,000 and it is appropriate to add that the event has been supported every year to date by local business, M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd.
